Cat has licked our food, would you eat it?

I'm a firm believer that people who are finicky about things like this end up with all the allergies.
Strangely although all my childrens, friends had allergies but no pets,my kids never suffered.
We've slept with cats, they've shared the food off our plates (well when you'd get a paw over the edge of the table, hooking stuff off your plate, you've no choice).
I slept with my cat on my pillow for nearly 16 years, and often woke up being choked by a paw being stuffed down my throat :rotfl:.
I'd often catch my big tabby boy head butting the lid off the steamer as he simply adored brussel sprouts and cabbage and he'd hook them out with his paw,he could'nt resist them.
My grand-daughter's fiance has asthma (his mum has never let an animal near the house) but after a year of gradually letting her three cats near him,he now sleeps unharmed with all three on the bed.
By the way I was told by a hospital consultant that cats do not have any more bacteria in their mouths than we do and we are more likely to catch a disease from our own species than a cat.0 -

In my experience the anti-cat brigade are usually the kind that only think about themselves.
Sorry if I offend anyone but it's just been my observation throughout my life.0 -
Lol at all the stories on this thread :rotfl:
I too would have eaten it
I remember my SIL chasing their alsatian around the house after it had stolen a chicken from the worktop when it had been left out to thaw, there was a mad chase around the house - upstairs etc, she finally wrestled the chicken from the dog, washed it and cooked it. Everyone was fine.
I once walked into the kitchen to find an extremely small kitten attempting to steal a 24lb turkey :rotfl:
She was trying to drag it off the side with a piece of skin which had streched at least a foot between the turkey and the cats teeth, looked like something from a cartoon :rotfl: i washed the turkey and we were all fine.
I`m not squeamish and would have no qualms about eating anything licked as long as it could be cooked afterwards.
My current cats fave nibbles are tuna, toast and cheese. She gets very vocal if she spots you trying to sneak any without giving her some.:D
MRSTITTLEMOUSE - i used to suffer badly with asthma which started suddenly, the doctor advised me to get rid of all our pets
I just couldn`t bring myself to do it, gradually it eased and now i still have a houseful of pets and absolutely no asthmaI shudder to think back to the doctors advice and can`t help but think that this is told to people who have pets when the problem is more likely to be dust or pollen etc.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Would love to have seen the kitten wrestling with the turkey!
My cat has perfected the Outraged Feline 'Why are you eating and I have nothing?' Stare. She will try most things and goes absolutely mental if she gets a whiff of...Tuc biscuits!0 -

Can't believe I've only just found this thread :rotfl: I'd probably still eat it- I'm sure I've eaten a lot worst before. I'm used to my cat's spit- every since the vet removed one of his teeth he tends to gurn and dribble a lot. I've been eating a ham sandwich before only for him to jump on my lap watching me eat and landing a load of drool right on my leg. I think the worst he's ever done is wait until I've yawned and then leaned forward and stuck his nose in my mouth- why I will never know. Looking back it was quite cute in a weird kind of way but at the time I was just shocked at having his cold wet snoz in my mouth
He'll eat anything except veggies. Particular favourites are creamy things, i.e. ice cream, yoghurt, milk-sodden cereal and cheese. He's developed an obsession with cheese strings and won't leave you alone until you give him some. I have to peel bits off and dangle them into his open mouth!
On the plus side as he's grows older he becomes a lot lazier. I tried to eat a slice of birthday cake last week but he wouldn't leave me alone, so I hid it and waited until he gave up and fell asleep.0 -
I'd have eaten it, having washed it off first.
Reminds me of a Christmas a few years ago. The turkey was too bog to fit in the firdige so had been put into the (stone built) shed/outbuilding over night. We hadn't realised that a window round the other side of the building was broekn, and the cat got in and knawed a big chink out of the breast.
We trimmed it off, doused it liberally with gin as a disinfectant and then cooked and ate as normal. We decided that any bug that could survive 4+hours of roasting was probably going to get us one way or another anyway...
14 of us ate that turkey and no-one came to any harm! All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
I used to have a cat who would sit and beg for kebab!! There was no way, no matter how drunk you were, he was going to let you get away with stuffing your face full of kebab without sharing with him.
The current mog is a right faddy !!!! and wont touch anything unless it is Hills Science or whiskers! I can leave any kind of meat or fish out and she just will not go near it.0 -
I too have a child lock on my fridge after watching my cat open the door with no trouble whatsoever. The first few times I thought I had not shut it properly! After losing a succulent leg of lamb chop which I should have had for tea I decided enough was enough and fixed lock.
The same cat also returned home one night with a whole raw chicken!! To get it in the house she would have had to climb two fences and negotiate the cat flap, how she did it I do not know. I did not dare ask if any neighbours were missing their chicken and hope there was no-one thinking they were going mad when it had disappeared!
She also sampled a selection of fairy cakes left out to cool. Other things bought in were frogs, and a tennis ball (how did she carry that as her mouth is not that big?):rotfl:0
