I think I might have just picked up a bit of a gem..fingers crossed.

I'd prefer not to say what the book is but it is an arts type book that Amazon sell for in excess of £50 and the other two sellers are asking much more for their own copies (why?) so I've gone in at £37.50 to see what happens.

I picked the book up for 50p.

I get all excited when this happens, but usually of course the book just joins the others in the storage shed and gets slowly reduced until it sells, but I've got a tingle from this one!

Ooh! I love it when people get 'a find':j , have you checked on bookfinder.com to see if there are other copies on other platforms?

Don't price it too low, especially if the other sellers are 'normal' sellers, never undersell yourself - once it's gone it's gone.

I think I've just had the switched item scam done on me :(

Buyer buys a PS2 game, sold as marked but good. Within 2 days tells me they are returning it for a full refund (which of course Amazon allow) as they didn't realise they were buying a used game..they thought it was new and sealed.

Arrived back this morning and my good 'slightly marked' disc is now very scratched and barely in an acceptable condition.

I can't prove anything nor can I refuse the refund so I am stuck. Am just about to refund through gritted teeth. Am seriously consdiering not listing games etc through Amazon any longer and sticking with books.

    Soo

My neighbour has had this happen to him on ebay, someone bought a vase of him and then returned it saying it was chipped, my neighbour only sells perfect items, now he always takes a photo of the item before he sends it off, so a good tip for all amazon sellers

    Help...

I sold a book on Amazon to somebody last month and they've just sent me an instant message on AOL, just saying Hi. Why would they do that, and do I have to reply (just in case they're a stalker nutcase type )

Or am I just being paranoid... It's just that I normally block all IMs and am not used to getting them from strangers...

I'd feel exactly the same ... so that's 2 of us paranoid.

My guess would be that they probably clicked the wrong button themselves, if I was you I'd just ignore it.

This is brilliant !! I just sold my first book and it sold for the same price at which you can get it for at Tesco !! I never thought I will be selling for some time to come. So started listing a few more items.

However, one of the books I listed is not showing in my account even though it is being shown as being sold by me on the book's product page. I know there is some issue where books are sometimes not updated to the account but I just wanted to know whether there is something I should do such as emailing amazon about this particular book or wait for the issue to sort itself out ?

Thanks for all the advice on this thread - espcially A Tycoon. Cant wait to run to the charity shops during the weekend

Well done on your first sale Riyazi, can tell you're hooked now as you're thinking 'charity shops'. There's another thread on this board about books that have sold on Amazon for good prices. If you haven't seen it might be worth a look if you are going to be spending money on books as it can be quite tricky to judge what to buy that will sell for a decent price. In some places charity shop books can be quite expensive so any inside info about what type of book is worth buying can be helpful :D

Amazon are having some problems on the website [lots about it on the last few pages]. Books seem to be listed and available for sale although they are not necessarily showing up in the 'open listings' on your seller account.

Hopefully it'll get sorted out soon, don't think you need to email Amazon as they know there's a problem but don't seem to be able to sort it very quickly at the moment

Mind you I'm having my best run of sales for months not sure if that's just a coincidence :j

Good luck with your sales & welcome

thanks teapot - I just watered down my enthusiasm a bit :) The book I sold was a brand new one. There are a couple of books that I bought for myself for 50p from Charity shops and there is a chance that they can go for more than £10 - so will wait until I sell those before I run off to the charity shops.

Thanks for the advise on the type of books - I read some of the posts on it but will do more research before buying

And yes - I am totally hooked :)

Thanks FFM and Juno - I have been ignoring them and so far they haven't sent any more messages. Whew! :)

(I did actually Google them - it's a reasonably distinctive name - and they seem to be a fairly respectable-sounding person, so it was all probably a misunderstanding. :))
