Incorrectly fitted car tyre compensation/goodwill payment
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me.
I had new tyres fitted yesterday by an approved fitter to a well known internet tyre provider. Being female, I don't know much about cars but did notice that one of my tyres looked a bit wonky compared to the others.
My bf checked my car over and told me that the wonky tyre in question hadn't been 'popped' on to the alloy properly and was very dangerous. I have been told also by friends that I was very lucky I didn't go on the motorway as it could have blown out and caused serious injury to myself and others.
I took my car back to the garage this morning and told them about the tyre. The mechanic tried to fob me off saying that it looked ok to him even though you could fit a finger between the rim and the tyre. He reluctantly asked someone to re-fit the tyre after my insistence. The guy who re-fitted my tyre openly admitted that you could tell just by looking at it that it hadn't been popped on correctly and that the apprentice that worked on my car was in trouble.
I e-mailed the internet tyre company to complain and ask for a goodwill payment. Whilst they have acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, they are only willing to refund me the fitting charge for the wonky tyre as the garage have now rectified the problem.
Is it unreasonable to want the fitting charge for all 3 tyres at least to be refunded? Considering how dangerous my car was after I initally left the garage, I do not think it's too much to ask.
Any thoughts and opinions are most welcome thanks.

You are not due any compensation as nothing has happened, don't use that fitters again, move on.0

Why should you get refund of the other three when they were fitted correctly?
You're not out of pocket and they've refunded the cost of the incorrectly fitted tyre. By all means tell family and friends if you want, but every place/person makes mistakes - it's unavoidable. The telling part is how that company rectifies it.
It seems to me that the tyre fitting company has done a decent job of rectifying the problem they caused.

I was lucky that nothing happened. Had I chosen to visit my parents, I would have had to have driven on the motorway at speeds of up to 70mph with an unsafe tyre.
A goodwill payment acknowledging the dangerous state my car was in for 24 hours after using their approved fitter would not be unreasonable.0 -

If the tyre let go at 70mph then yes, you should be chasing them for every possible penny. Assuming you were able to prove the tyre was incorrectly fitted in the first place.
As they have fixed the fault then what else do want them to do?
I stubbed my toe on the coffee table last night - shall I have the dog put to sleep as she wanted a wee at 4.00 this morning? Or shall I burn down IKEA's head office as they didnt supply the coffee table with lights?0 -

Not quite sure why you would have needed to drive at speeds of up to 70MPH. It's not mandatory to do that speed on a motorway.
