As jeferey and terryya have pointed out, there's no con; the amount repaid will be the exact amount charged as VAT on the purchase.
I just got a cheque from Sony for a Bravia TV I bought before Christmas. I got it from John Lewis, after JL price-matched the lowest price I could find online, which happened to be from a dealer with a retail outlet. So I got what is arguably the best TV on the market, at the bottom price, cashback and a five year guarantee as well. Naturally I am a very satisfied customer, as the whole package seemed too good to let pass.

I submitted VAT back claims on two Sony products by the deadline. One bought from amazon and one from JL. Anyone know how long they take to process it?0
