We so loved the carrot cake and its throw it all in one bowl method, I have been experimenting with it today
.
Instead of orange, raisins and carrot, I used 3, previously frozen, over ripe, bananas, mashed with 50g of walnut bits, chopped small. I also used half wholemeal and half white flour.
Cooked as per recipe, omg this is nom! The house also smells fabulous :T.
I know the planners, followed strictly, dont have bananas, still, might help someone. We often have one sad banana left at the end of the week and I bung them in the freezer until there's enough to bake with.
Tomorrow, spiced apple version :-).Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -
Allegra, do those big pumpkins sold for carving make good eating? Everywhere is selling them off now, but I had it in my head they were bleurgh to eat and I had to buy sugar pumpkins. I'll be delighted if I am wrong!Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

Ohhhh me me me ! I have a few frozen sad bananas in my freezer that I always end up passing over when searching for something to eat. I will definitely try that ! (And Kitty is allowed bananas if she so wishes, so that would defo be a useful recipe if she has any left uneaten for whatever reason)
As for pumpkins, they do vary, but generally they taste quite nice although they are a lot more watery than you'd ideally want them to be. This does make them perfect for soup though, and other "wet" food - risotto for instance; if using sufficient pumpkin, you'd hardly need any stock
I have not actually tried them in tarts/pies - was hoping to this year, but it wasn't mean to be, lol.0 -
Good morning!
is anyone else willing to try the spaghetti aglio meal?
I think it would be good to get more views before deciding to try to either change the recipe or swap the meal for something else.
Fivenations recommended it with fresh garlic, I have since used this, but am wondering if i have done something wrong in the balance of spices? Avocet's family eat it also I remember...
Any tips welcomed!
Weezl x

and if so how much would you think, a teaspoon in 30ml oil I was guessing...0 -
I think the original recipe was just not quite there but the chillies were an excellent accompaniment - OH thinks that it would have worked well with anchovies too for those who don't like much heat in their food.
FWIW I used garlic puree rather than cloves (just because that was what was in the cupboard):happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

Well Edgar loved it! I usually have trouble getting him to eat lunch but he ate loads so I've had to make a sandwich for myself too :rotfl:
I thought it was alright, there was way too much oil left in my bowl which wasn't very nice when it ended up down my chin
I doubt I'd make it again unless I had 'nothing' in as it doesn't really feel like a meal IYSWIM
Although that said I would probably like it mid festivities as its quick and easy, a nice change from the big meals and all the choc I'd inevitably be eating
photos: I used 30ml oil and that much garlic purreethats a 7 inch-ish pan and 100g spaghetti
11 turns of my pepper grinder which is set to grind quite chunky
