How did you feel during pregnancy

It could be genuine, but I have never known anyone to be that tired and I've known a fair few pregnant people!
TBH, I played on the tiredness issue a bit with number 1...especially with OH:rotfl: . With number 2, didn't have the option to play on it as I had number 1 to look after...he was under 2 at the time, so that was great fun;)
However, I do know lots of people who stop themselves doing things because they are pregnant, using the pregnancy as an excuse...it isn't a disease!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

It could be genuine.
I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I slept most of Monday as I literally couldn't be bothered to do anything. However I was full of beans yesterday and got loads done.
I'm not getting a full nights sleep which isn't helping. I'm up most nights around 1am and 5am as I need a wee.
I've had sickness too. Sometimes it's just chucking up and I'm fine, but some days I feel queasy and yucky all day.
I don't expect husband to do everything though. He helps out such as I felt yucky at the weekend so he did the washing and ironing for me as his work shirts and the childrens uniforms needed doing. I still do as much as I can when I'm not feeling yucky though! Here I go again on my own....0 -
It sounds genuine to me. Actually if the hormones are affecting her that much it is a really good sign that the pregnancy is progressing well. I was permanently tired until about 20 weeks and then I had a real rush of energy that lasted until a couple of weeks before the end. Do you know if she is sleeping well at night? If not that will add to the problem.0

Yep, could well be true, I felt awful all the way through with both my kids. Tired, sick, just awful - all the time, 24 hours a day, whole 9 months. I felt just as tired and sick if I woke in the night as I had when I went to bed. With my son, I retched every time I moved for the first 20 weeks. Some people do, some people don't.0

Could she low in Iron:question:
Being pregnant is very tiring as the baby takes alot of the neutrients from you.
Ask her to enquire about a low Iron count.:)0 -
Definitely could be true. With my first I was so tired and felt sick ALL the time for the first 3 months. It's very hard as most people don't know at that stage, so I had to get through work and by the time I got home I was pretty much clued to the settee - it passed for me about 12-14 weeks, so might be the same for your family member.
Your original post seems quite disbelieving that pregnancy can affect women this much. Does she know what you think? - might be part of the reason she's too tired to visit you!0 -
Everyone's experience of pregnancy, (and childbirth), is different, so unless your family member has a propensity for lying and being lazy I would definitely believe her!
I have never felt so tired as I did during my pregnancies, even with the sleepless nights after the baby was born. I would sleep after work until tea time and then go to bed early, it was as if I could hardly keep my eyes open. I also suffered with SPD both times and it is absolutely exhausting, being in pain everytime you try to move, it really drags you down. Additionally I became anaemic later in pregnancy and this can make you very tired. You have to remember a pregnant women's body is creating and nurturing a new life and the baby can take everything out of you.
To be honest I get really cross when people think you should just sail through a pregnancy full of beans just because they or people they know have. Yes pregnancy isn't an illness but it can make you feel very ill believe me! I got sick of my MIL asking me if I'd got my energy back after the morning sickness was over, because that was her experience. Also depends on general health and age. I had my DS at 40 and of course you haven't got the energy of someone half your age.
Is your relative happy with the pregnancy as excessive tiredness can be a symptom of depression.0 -
I worked full time throughout my pregnancy and i believe being oncall, and regularly getting less than 8 hours sleep a day, contributed to me becomming quite ill at the end with high blood pressure, anemia and extreme pain in my shoulder which the doctor said was probably a symptom of stress.

Sounds exactly like me during my pregnancy. I couldnt' believe how totally !!!!!! I felt when I should have been blooming! I honestly felt at deaths door for most of 9 months (9 months of all day morning sickness & travel sickness even to work 3 miles away didn't help) I think during the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy I completed less than a total working week of working hours! Things got a bit better in the middle, sometimes I could stay awake all day (and fall asleep on the sofa before dinner) & count the number of times I threw up on just one hand:p Then during the last 2 months it all came back:p
Have some sympathy, generally the worse you generally feel at the begininng of your pregnancy, the worse you will feel during labour (not scientifically proved, just advised this by every midwife I saw & it was true for me!) Also told teh worse you feel teh better teh baby is developing or something? and a sign of a healthy baby because it's gettign everythign it needs in large quantities from you (and at your expense!) If you care at all, drop off a few casseroles, they will be really really apprecieated! And if this is her first pregnancy, let her enjoy the chance to be idle....it'll be her last chance for the rest of her life!;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
