  • katholicos - brilliant, thanks :T
New store opening 2 Dec, will be going up for looksee, - 8 miles away but don't drive so off to investigate public transport.

    Many Thanks
    xx
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

  • Managed to stay away from supermarkets this week but have had a bad couple of days. We're having to travel to Birmingham on a weekly basis at the moment so my OH can get treatment for a tumor he's got. We're driving as it's the cheapest option, but still having to fork out for petrol. It's an 8 hour 460 mile round trip ( without traffic problems ) so we ended up getting a burger king meal at a cost of £11 and then by the time we got home I was so tired that I couldn't face cooking anything so we ended up getting a takeaway which cost another £10.40 and really it's money we don't have.

I am really sorry to hear about your issues, I am sure there must be someone that can help with travelling costs maybe see if they have patient help in the hospital. It is a worrying time for you and I am sure that your friends will understand that things are a bit tight for you at the moment. lots of good ideas for cutting down on food costs so I am sure there is something to help. Much love to you x
    Determined to do better

As can be seen from my signature, I have gone over budget already and we still have 11 days of the month left :(

I have kept all my receipts - normally by now, I would have long given up so despite the overspend, I'm pleased that I have continued to keep track because at least, when it comes to the end of the month, I can see where the overspends have been.

I was planning to have my first te$co home delivery in over a month tomorrow but was shocked when the total reached £189 ? I can't remember if that was after the offers had been applied or not ? I couldn't close it fast enough! All I did was go through my favourites and order the bits and pieces needed, ok some treats for xmas also , usual boring stuff, loo roll, cat food. As i had clicked "add" quite a lot, I knew it was going to be quite high - budgeted £150.00 but wasn't expecting almost £200 !

I haven't meal planned once this month - I just haven't got round to it. but I must do this. I still have leeks in my fridge from over two weeks ago (i bought them on bogof?!) I didn't have them on my meal plan and haven't fancied them since I bought them so in the fridge they remain ! I also have a butternut squash in my fridge from my last home delivery - that was 6/7 weeks ago !!!

I had my c;ubcard vouchers the other day and Ive decided to spend them on xmas treats. I know I could get "x" times their value on the shop's website but there is nothing I want - I have already had two mag subscriptions with previous clubcard vouchers and to be able to get some extra bits for xmas at no cost will be very welcome - I know this isn't getting the best value for them, but I'm happy. :D

Rather than bulk buy and overspend on home deliveries, I have tried to shop weekly and although I haven't meal planned, Ive tried to "just buy" the stuff I know I will need for that week. Its kind of worked although there have been a few odd shopping trips where I have spent just for the sake of spending - i.e. I have missed my bus home so have gone to the shop instead !

Will need to look through my receipts and see just how much this "extra spending" adds up to!
  • K - couldn't you swap the punctured tyre for your spare until you can get it fixed? I know it is illegal not to have a roadworthy spare so you won't want to leave it too long - but it's better than risking the wheel rim being damaged if you drive Moniker[/QUOTE]

I have a Vauxhall Zapfira and they are supplied without spare wheels but they do give you a gadget that will pump up the tyre and seal it till you get it fixed .Apparently its because its difficult to find anywhere on the vehicle to store it (Its a seven seater) I was suprised when I got it but it is apparently legal to use even though there is no spareI have only had one puncture and the RAC came out and pumped it up and followed me to Kwik fit to ensure it was repaired
NSD for me today I am doing really well as I won't need to go to the shops until at least Tuesday I think, then it will only be for fresh milk:j:j
  • Well today was a NSD unexpectantly as I just couldn't be bothered to go anywhere. I have spent the whole day doing housework and arguing, or "debating" I should say I suppose, with silly people on here. Not this forum I hasten to add!

Oh Katholicos what a day of it you've had hun. Hope you're having a well deserved rest now, if not already fast asleep.

Also hope the tablets work quickly for your Dad as water tablets can sometimes ease some breathing issues, and if not, at least it'll take his swelling down :)

Flat Eric you can freeze leeks if that's any help :)

How ridiculous that Vauxhall Zafira's are supplied without spare tyres! I'm shocked at that. I kind of assumed it was law to sell a new car with one, as I though it was law to have to carry one, but obviously Vauxhall no better than me :D Maybe it's only law that if you have one, it has to be roadworthy? Well, well, you learn something new every day.

NSD here again - that's 3 in a row, which I think may be a first for me :j Means I've £62.71 left of my budget which is £5.70 to spend per day for the next 11 days. The question is - do I do a small online shop, or do I just go out everyday and buy what I need and go 3 weeks between my last shop and the next instead of 2?

Gonna need milk and bread at least tomorrow though. Maybe I'll wait and see how much left I have at the end of tomorrow.

A lot of new cars come without a spare these days......

I was told by a garage (a few years back) that even if the car was designed to carry a spare you wouldn't fail an MOT for not having one

The worst I hit was car number 3 - which was a Fi@t Tempra Saloon. It wasn't until I got a flat that I discovered the spare (which was a 'space saver' one) wouldn't fit into the recess if inflated - so if I hadn't carried a compressor as standard practise I couldn't have used it anyway  The car was a year old when we got it, but the garage failed to mention this 'little quirk' to me at the time

Well, well - that's something else I've learned, as I also thought no spare tyre was an immediate MOT fail.

It's becoming clear that I don't know much at all :rotfl:

    You and me both :rotfl:

Was hoping for an earlier night but decided to get my bananas sliced and put in the dehydrator and to bake 30-40 jacket potatoes which will go in the freezer once cold.

Of course, i ended up with some banana that was on the turn and wasn't suitable for dehydrating so as i didn't want to waste them i decided to make a banana cake using a recipe i found on here (and now can;t seem to find it!). I've just taken them out of the oven and they smell yummy...but the proof of the pudding will quite literally be in the eating of said banana cakes :)

Right, need to go and turn oven off and let the remaining potatoes finish off as the oven cools down. Will take them out of oven in the morning...if i remember they are in there!
