I've no idea what you just said there, lol.....but well done :T

Well, I had to get my milk, as the new meds daughter is on are still causing her insomnia, and she was up all night making copious mugs of tea (decaf I might add), so there wasn't much milk left to disguise, and so bought a couple of 4 pinters

That means I'm Declaring a November spend of £276.71 over budget by £1.71, but I can live with that :D

Well done to EVERYONE taking part, especially those coming in under budget :T

Well done everyone for all your attempts, whether successes or not. Every little helps...as the popular supermarket slogan goes...

I've stayed well within budget this month, fortunately as finances are a nightmare at the moment. If i've done me sums right I am about £29.88 under budget....not that the £29.88 is in my purse or bank because the money just aint there, so it is just as well :D

Here's wishing us all, all the versy best during the upcoming festive season's Grocery Challenge

  • Hello all - November came to a total of £292.44, out of a budget of £300, which I'm really surprised at, it was my first month and I've always spent about £400 a month, so I'm pleased that I've managed it.

    Well done everyone :)

Hangs head in shame - I have spent £482 this month over £50 too much, however I do have 14lb of haddock (7 of white and 7 of yellow) in the freezer, 3 x 1.4kg white puddings and 3 x 1.4kg black puddings from Stornoway, 2 haggis, 14 chicken breast, mince stew and diced pork as well, so while it seems bad these products were bought in bulk so I saved a fortune. Fish was £3.80 a lb, fillets were 70p each, haggis £4 each and the puddings were £6 each where as the butcher - who buys them from the same place - sells them for £10.80 each. so this buying as a co-operative in the office is paying dividends - if you can get enough friends and family together to do this I would thoroughly recommend it. Will keep budget at £450 for December due to the extras I will buy but hopefully I will manage rto stay below that.

  • Well my first GC and I am coming in at £372.86 over by £22.86. When I put it like that it doesn't sound too much but I did give myself an extra £50 to make up for buying some Xmas goodies. I have also managed to pick up some washing powder/liquid and dishwasher tablets when they where on offer so I prob have enough to last until March. I'm not going to beat myself up about going over, I am just glad that I can see just how much we actually spend and I am amazed as I would never normally watch what I buy and could easily spend nearly double that amount. I have also noticed how I have taken to using things that I would normally bin and I regularly check my fridge now and freeze anything nearing it best before date (normally this would have just gone in the bin). I have baked a lot more this month in order to try and save some of my GC as I usually buy the kids a treat for their lunchboxes but now they get home made muffins or a small cake.
I must admit I am not going to join in on the GC for December, we have family coming to stay and are planning on being out for a few visits so this is one month when we don't really plan and just fly by the seat of our pants. I will however be joining in Jan as I am determined to ensure 2011 is a frugal year for this family and that way we might even be able to afford a wee holiday!
    Just little old me!

£6.88 spent in S**nsburys, £36.17 in M**risons, and declaring at £155.67 for November, so for the first time since doing the challenge I've gone over budget, but only by £5.67 so not too bad, and a lot of my last shop won't be used until next month, (some not till Christmas) so technically I could have included some of the spends in next month's budget, but I decided against it.

I did an inventory of my fridge and freezer contents today, and will go through my cupboards tomorrow so I know exactly what I've got, then I may have a go at meal planning for the month to minimize shopping trips and spending.
