I have been told by a physiotherapist in the past that memory foam mattresses can actually make bad backs etc worse. Apparently, they enourage you to lie in one position for much longer than you would normally and can make for more pain and stiffness. Be careful before shelling out ££££s.

Thing is, I don't usually move when I sleep anyway, so it doesn't have that effect on me. I learned almost subconsciously not to move during my sleep unless I wanted to wake up with a dislocation...

I think you will be able to knock the VAT off & get it VAT free as you have a nedical need.

You can only get thing 0 rated for VAT if its was designed for disabled use and it doesnt apply to things like this because they are designed for everyone.

The ramps I buy are from machine mart and I have to pay VAT on them but they are stronger and better quality than those designed for disability use, they work out cheaper too!

But if his doctor is supporting it as a medical use then wouldn't it be 0 rated VAT?

No it wouldnt, it has nothing to do with doctors but goverment HMCE rules, I have bought many things 0 rated VAT and attempted many more like as in my fabulous matress but for that I had to pay VAT.

Cars are easier and Ive bought 4 this century 0 rated VAT because as long as they are adapted they pass the rules for HMCE.

This website here offers VAT free Tempur mattresses

    http://www.backinaction.co.uk/faq#gen5

5a. Relief due to health reasons.
We promise that our prices are the best you can get, but there may be a way to save even more! There is a little known VAT office concession which allows most Back in Action customers to buy certain products without paying the VAT element. If you (or someone who will be using one of these specific products) are suffering from a chronic/long term condition you should fully explore if this concession applies.

To make it clear: the 17.5% VAT saving is in addition to the low prices shown on the Back in Action web site unless it says otherwise.
To make sure you don't miss out on this concession here is a brief summary:
    1. To claim the VAT concession both you and the product you are buying from us must qualify.
    2. To decide if your condition allows the concession simply call us. We will talk you through the criteria.
    3. If we agree that your condition justifies VAT relief Back in Action will deduct VAT on the following products.

Tempur Mattresses (pre-March 2007 if we have stock)
Tempur Foam products (pillows, backrests etc.)
      Tempur Adjustable bases
      Back in Action Mirrorform Mattress
All mattresses when purchased with an adjustable base
      Riser chairs
      The Mobiliser.

Some web sites do offer 0 rated VAT but in general they either charge more to start with or offer inferiour products.

People who JUST sell disability aids can also con you into thinking things are VAT free but the best advice is to look around and not be coloured by the false promise of a 17.5 % discount.

Like everything in life, reasearch your product and compare suppliers/products before you buy anything.

The memory foam made my back worse, puppypants.

Luckily I was able to return it as I had bought it on trial.

    Most retailers will do that.
