    Hi

I took a quick peek at one of your auctions. One thing that shouted out at me was (and I'm sorry if this sounds harsh or picky) that your auction page looked amateurish. Different fonts, point sizes, colours, etc. My wife pointed out something similar about a webpage only a few days ago, and yours gives the same impression.

If you've ever used powerpoint, a common mistake is to use too many different effects. It makes people look at those effects rather than the content. Same for your page.

If I can give a little advice?

1/ Keep to one point size (except maybe for the product title on the page). 2/ Check your spelling.
3/ Finally... accept paypal. I'm a power seller on eBay, and I get over 80% of my payments through paypal, from both here and overseas. I'd hazard a guess that people are put off by your payment methods, but I could always be wrong.

    Good luck with your selling.

Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
    Should OF, would OF
. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.
  • I shouldn't worry too much about being "amateurish" As Ampalian I sometimes use eBay and I have a pretty stunning professionally designed template to do so. My wife sometimes offers our overstock jewellery on eBay without the use of a template. My wife sells more! I think some folks see my template and perceive my listing for the same item as more expensive somehow.

You can succeed with a standard listing. Good photos and remember to sell the sizzle, not the sausage. A list of features is just information. It's a list of benefits that will sell. Consider the difference between:

    Ideal for children

    Your children will be fascinated

Of those two statements the latter is far more powerful.
  • You cannot photograph the effect, even with long exposures.

As for the text etc, I take your point, not sure how much difference it actually makes if someone wants what you have to offer. If I really wanted to buy something for instance, I wouldn`t be put off because the seller can`t spell.
The other person selling these describes hers as "square 3ft x 2ft5in" for instance. Or maybe it matters in the early days but once you have enough feedback no one cares.
I will take a look at it again and would like other peoples thoughts on this please.

I do take Paypal (or at least I think I do)

    Thanks for the input
  • Encantador?

I was having a look around the place last night and spotted what looked like the same thing. Does your competitor have an ebay shop?

baffcat and ampalian I think I agree with both of you somehow - lol! -- while I agree with ampalian that it doesn't matter if you have a simple design as oposed to a professionally designed page, I agree with baffcat that you should always keep the font simple and all one size/colour etc so that it is easy for the information to be processed...

I think you are right that with making sure you get the right wording etc, and another thing I would suggest (cant remember if has already been mention or not?) is to get the best wording for the header as you need your item to appear in a search that is vaguely relevant!

  • As someone else has pointed out, there are 2 others, one has 70+ feedback, the other has 800+
    Which have you found?

The one advertising under weddings. I'll PM you with the number thing. It might not even be the same but it looks like it.

Thanks. Not sure weddings would be the best category, but at least he is selling some. Maybe I will put it under `Nokia mobile phones` and see what happens.

Maybe I should just offer to travel anywhere in the country and do 3 complete ceilings in the house for £300. Would probably sell hundreds....(;0)

I've never seen these before and now I've seen three!
