Civil Parking Notice

Hi guys,

Hopefully someone can help me on this one.

I was issued with a Civil Parking Notice the other day at the University I'm currently studying at. I had a permit on my windscreen but it expired the day before my ticket was issued (I had no idea at the time). It was in the uni car park.

The ticket says I must pay £60 within 28 days and I'd get a discount if they get the payment from me within 14 days.

Is there any way I can avoid it as even £30 is a lot of money?

Hope someone can advise me which route I should take?

Have you read the sticky at the top of the board or any of the other threads? Do some reading, then if there's anything lse you need to know, come back and ask.

The advice, quite simply, is.... ignore.

And no, you cannot be refused graduation for failure to pay a parking ticket. Not legally, anyway.

Here are all the threads on the board. You'll see the advice is IGNORE the fake ticket:

Read lots of info, don't even THINK about paying it. But if the registered keeper is not you do warn them that they will get some threatograms from a scam debt collector (see the sticky thread 'PPC letters/scams, what to expect').

TELL THEM in no uncertain terms that the ticket is a scam and MUST be ignored, not paid! Show them the threads you find with links, letters, Watchdog link that will show them this whole bogus tickets thing really is a con.

Do not allow the registered keeper to pay it to 'help you'. Paying a scammer helps no-one.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

As sarah says, ignore. If the Uni start any hot air about graduation see the law department.
  • Thanks guys - after reading all the info I'm going to sit tight and not pay. I think they've been really undair and I really hope I don't get into trouble with this :p

Who issued the ticket? The uni itself or a contractor?

If it is a contractor, the chances of it affecting your graduation are almost nil, as PPC contract payments to a uni/client are almost invariably ex-gratia.

If it issued by the uni themselves and follows the usual pattern of incompetence, there are many ways to get them to back down. Post-up a scan or transcript for us to have a good laugh at.

Otherwise, Ignore and wait and see what crap they throw at you next. :)
  • The uni issued it. It has their logo on the top and says that if I pay it early they'll reduce the fine.

It also has my reg on it.

I'll see what happens now and keep you posted.

I'm just really nervous that I'll have some sort of record and they'll send debt collectors round to my boyfriends (the car is in his name) - is it worth the headache?

Debt collectors just send letters. Unless you live round the corner from their portakabin they won't be knocking your door.

There's no money in wasting petrol driving around and knocking on empty houses when you have no powers whatsoever.

In the very unlikely event that they do turn up, don't forget that they are just private citizens with no special powers. If they knock at your door tell them to go away, or you will call the police and report them for harassment.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Touch wood - nothing so far.

I bet loads of people just pay thinking they can get in trouble with the uni.
