Just out of interest due to all of the bickering with regards to wood burners and HETAS installers it would be nice to see photo's of peoples DIY installations..........if your brave enough put your money where your mouth is:-)

Looks like one needs another web host, like image station (which I don't have, honest) to upload to this site??
I honestly fail to see what one can make from an image, as an installation starts at the top, then completes at the bottom.
I reckon this is a cheap shot, as I hear y.our looking to employ a gofer (saw this on another website) so pics are really a CV?
Personally I reckon I can match a HETAS installer nae bother, would take me longer though, then again, I wouldn't install for anyone else bar moi

Yeah, could do with a gofer. Definitely not a CV though:-)
Would just like to see the finished article on a DIY job to compare with ours. You say you can match a HETAS fitter but without a piccy they're just words.0 -
When I click on "insert image" small window opens asking for a URL, other forums I frequent, one can add images straight from whatever folder I have image stored on on my laptop, don't seem to work this way here, but please pray tell me if there is a simpler way/method? I did intend to post my install on the other site (one you are using for recruitment) same site dont allow image posting except through image whatever for example?
Whilst I like to share, I really don't have the time to setup some account to allow me to post an image, perhaps the site should have this facility already built in for ease?
A picture is an image, kinda like a weld I will deem fit for purpose, however, if you have the equipment and knowledge to view below the surface, there may be sub surface imperfections. If you fancy a wee jolly over the border, feel free to rip my install to pieces, I'll even pay for your accommodation. this is how confident I am, there is a catch though, you are required to root and cap a 4" pipe in 6G position, basically so you can say the same as me, "I can do what you do" deal?

Ps, you showed an image of an install with a steel backing plate that was painted/powder coated accordingly, I would reckon to suit the surrounding area? Nothing wrong with this at all.
I've knocked up for mates a few register plates, spigots/access doors to boot, it's rare I use steel, then paint or galvi plated, I use good old SS, basic cheap grade will do the trick. Looking and thinking out the box can save money in the long term, plus add visual value to an install. Although I know with some/many customers, cost is an important factor, they require simple educating in the wisdom of using one material from another, but then you have to know your metal s value beyond a flu liner.
Simple for me to say tho, as I know my materials.0 -
I can upload photos of my DIY Open Fire installation CR for critique?0

Im a tad confused, how does photos of a finished instillation tell anyone anything about the instillation?0

I would love to see peoples stoves installed, just for a bit more inspiration.0

I'd say it tells a lot......if the installation looks scruffy from the ground then it's probably scruffy all over. If the installation looks mint from the ground then it's likely the rest is mint.
A bit like a car.......if it's a rusty heap on the outside it's probably a heap on the inside.
Welda - You can't upload photo's straight from your computer unfortunately. Due to the amount of users this forum has it would take up too much disc space......you need to host them on something like 'flicker' and then copy the URL and past it into MSE. I could do with some kind of evidence that proves it's your house too......maybe a photo of the fireplace and then a photo of you holding todays paper in front of the fireplace:-)I can upload photos of my DIY Open Fire installation CR for critique?
It would be nice to see. I'm not after ripping peoples installations apart though. Just after Badger and Welda's:-) Until i've seen their handy work i'm going to struggle to take them seriously.0 -

Do a quick video.....very easy to put on Youtube. Takes a couple of mins.A picture is an image, kinda like a weld I will deem fit for purpose, however, if you have the equipment and knowledge to view below the surface, there may be sub surface imperfections. I've never questioned your welding so i don't think there's an issue there. I'm sure your a very competent welder. I'm not bad myself though. Before i got into stoves i was an aircraft engineer so pretty handy with SS, mild steel and aluminium....etc

Heaven knows how you managed to become aircraft engineer, CRP, when you seem to have such reading difficulties.
As I've always said, my installation was undertaken by one of your HETAS types.
Mind you, he thinks HETAS is a bit of a racket, too.
Can't imagine why you think I self-installed. Perhaps you would care to post a relevant link to substantiate your point?
Or just stop making a fool of yourself. Either would be a relief.0
