I didn't have to apply. My wife's older than me so started getting it first. When I turned 60 they wrote to me asking for account details for it to go into and then started paying half to me. My wife's dropped by half.

I have been getting it (£200) for the last 4 years. DH is a year younger than me, not drawing state pension, so isn't "known" to the DWP. Is there any need for him to get it at all, or can I just carry on getting the full amount for both of us?

We're in our 70s too, both 75, and I could not live with that attitude, 70s or not.

No need - but he may appreciate getting it himself

Logically, you will not be entitled to the full amount. You may then be asked to pay back the portion you were not entitled to and AFAIR WFA cannot be backdated. You could put yourself at risk of receiving less that you and your OH are legally entitled to.

It's normally about the middle of the month, 3rd or maybe even 4th week.

Tell me truthfully - is there anyone out there who is really desperately waiting for it???? And will put it towards what it was intended for, and that wasn't Christmas presents for grandchildren! A new winter coat definitely does qualify. We've just had 2 double-glazed window frames replaced that had 'blown', so that comes under the heading of 'insulation' and it does qualify. As I took the money out of savings to pay for them, the WFA can go back to savings.

I've just checked and last year mine arrived in my bank account on 1 Dec.

MC - of course there will be people 'out there' who will be desparately waiting for it and will use it to pay their fuel bill, rather than using it to buy a new winter coat or replacing double glazing units. To assume otherwise makes no sense.

I mentioned a new winter coat because that was what aloise above plans to buy. That does qualify, but I have heard of people spending it on grandchildren's Christmas presents, which does not. Double-glazing qualifies because it is insulation.
