Update:
Accepted to Nationwide flexbasic. They will send me a letter and I will have to 'return' documents they require to open the account. hope they don't want id posted cause I won't do it.Hopefully I can go to the branch with it.
Update:
Now I've received a card, my pin and a letter about internet banking but no letter asking for id to be taken to the branch. So I am assuming the account isn't open yet.0 -

If you've got your card etc then you've got the account open. They don't always require ID to be taken into branch.
I opened my nationwide flex basic a few weeks ago & didn't need to produce ID.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65
SPC 9 (2016) #485 TOTAL £84
SPC 10 (2017) # 485 TOTAL: £464.80

Bump :
Confusion Re - Flex basic internet banking.
In the internet banking letter they sent me it says
'Dear Mr Gnu, great news! Now you're registered for internet banking'.. blah blah..but I haven't registered yet.
'When logging in you'll need this pass number... and this customer number ...and one piece of memorable data you provided when you registered. For all debit cards you'll need pin and card reader'.
'Didn't provide any memorable data? No problem, once you've got your card reader log on to internet bank and' ..set up the info...
So apart from the fact I haven't registered yet my main confusion is that on the website it says you cannot use a flex basic card in a card reader, and I couldn't register without one today 'because doing so would invalidate my log in details which should be with you shortly',and now a card reader has arrived!
Update: Called Nationwide and it turns out that their website is out of date and you can use flex basic card with the card reader.
Call center experience was very good.0 -
I have had bad credit in the past (over 5 years ago). I have a NatWest basic account and a Vanquis credit card which has recently had it's credit limit increased to £1000 (no balance I clear it every month). I also have £5000 in a savings account with NatWest.
Recently I have been wondering whether I would likely to be eligible for a 'full bank account'? I don't want an overdraft however I would like such things as a contactless card, a card which I can use a at pay at pump petrol stations, use Applepay, have a chequebook etc.
I did enquire with NatWest about upgrading and was told I would have to apply for a brand new account. As this would mean a new account number etc I may as well look at other banks too and find one most likely to give me a full account.
Can anyone suggest a bank I'm likely to get a full account with? Or should I wait longer before thinking about applying? All advise would be greatly appreciated0 -
Does anyone have experience of their basic account being closed due to bouncing DD's? I've just opened a Cash minder account @ the co-op bank and the personal banker said if more than 3 bounce they will close it. Things like rent have to be on a S/O but at the moment it's being paid late (ie so bounces and I pay it manually within a week or so). Thanks for any advice!0

Would you not be better off adjusting the standing order date, or doing them all manually ? I would think continually having failed standing orders wouldn't endear you to any bank, with coops policy re direct debits I'd want to avoid this0

My plan is not to have many DDs or SO for this reason, but some - like rent - you have to have one in place.0

You can just the rent payment manually (to the same details as the standing order) via telephone banking , Internet or the mobile app - when the funds are available.
Wouldn't this solve your issue? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Bit of feedback for you re: Co-Op CashMinder account.
Went in to branch on Monday to apply, debit card came today (Friday). All set up for online and telephone banking. My wages will get paid in to it on Monday so hopefully I'll have the PIN come through by then.
Aside from the "3 strikes" rule I'm really happy so far - excellent customer service throughout from being able to call my local branch directly, getting a meeting same day with the personal banker, and getting through to them today to set up my telephone banking codes which I needed to log in to the mobile app.
All I have left to do now is talk to Barclays regarding my very overdrawn current account. I'm currently over my emergency borrowing limit so incurring fees for that, plus the £9.00 p/m account fee. Do I need to call them / go in to branch / write a letter? StepChange have listed them on my budget as a creditor along with Credit Cards etc as to receive £1 per month token payment until we can afford to enter a DMP, but obviously I'd like them to freeze all charges and fees on the account until the OD is paid off and I can close the account,
Thanks0
