A Budgeteers Quest to be Debt Free & Mortgage Free By 40

I too am trying to eat healthier and must say I dont feel so tired all the time.
The debt is long stand from before I met my OH but he so good about it all and helps as and when he can. All the household bills etc come out of a joint account and we each put in half. He pays his mortgage and my own house is rented out. The rent covers the mortgage I have on it. He pays for most of the cost of my horses and has his own horse which helps as he understands the love of the animal and the cost of it. When I met him I was needing to sell one and he said no he will keep it. He will often give me money for petrol and he buys most of the food with the exception I buy my own lunches as I am trying to lose some weight.
Our house is currently under extension so I know he needs all his extra pennies for that but we are managing and I cant wait for the loan to go. He is very encouraging which helps although will also fritter away money on takeaways etc but its his money at the end of the day and he doesnt have debt. He doesnt even have a balance on a credit card.0 -
Sadly I think it's highly unlikely I'll run the challenge again next year. I'll definitely sign up if anyone else wants to take up the reins though."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". That is understandable Jwil - you will have a lot on your plate.0

Hi All
LAM, your Mr sounds really supportiveIt must feel so good to know you're not alone with it all
My fella is the same without any debt whatsoever - unfortunately one of the reasons i have never discussed my money problems with him is that i don't think he would be supportive in fact i think it could actually cause alot of problems between us
jwil - i figured you may not run the thread next year - i hope someone takes over on it as its such a fantastic motivator. I don't think i'd have the time to run it either xCC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -

My DH is not supportive with money either
He's a sweetheart with everything else, but he hates debt and is always worried about going into it - to the extent that he overreacts to everything and always thinks things are much worse than they are.
It's hard work and it would be nice to sit and talk things through logically sometimes, but it's impossible, so it's easier he justs sends me over his half each month and I just deal with it all."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Hi Dragon - lovely to see you and many thanks to LAM for answering your question
Hey jwil - our finances with our Mr's seem to operate in a very similar way so i know it can be tough. I *may* have finally accepted that this is the way my Mr is, there is no changing that so i should just accept it and i *think* this helps me to handle things better rather than getting worked up over things xCC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -
So Good Morning everyone (just!)
How has everyones long weekend been ?
Mine in some ways turned out as i expected and i still have today to get some things done (hopefully)
So i spent Friday rushing about helping other people, exhausted and hungry i then did the supermarket shop, was most restrained but still spent over the budgeted amount - which i'll need to look at and report on later
I arrived home to the task of putting the shopping away, cleaning the house and putting a couple of things back in order and then making tea.
The night was then spent relaxing and watching a couple of films.
Saturday i had a fairly decent lie-in and then made a hearty breakfast. Setting us up perfectly for a lovely walkI then cleaned a small item and moved a couple of things - this took no more than 5 minutes and made the world of difference - so why do i put off these 5 minute jobs? The rest of the day was spent listing a couple of bits on the bay of e, washing pots, washing and drying and moving clothes and a very healthy amount of reading
Before again making tea and then cleaning up after this and watching films
Yesterday i took myself off to the carboot - in some ways it was disappointing this week - being very small which i didn't expect on the bank holiday and i wondered if saturdays downpour was the reason ? I was surprised to find when i finally came away that i had totally spent up on my budget  This of course meant i had found some good things to buy - i was very lucky in finding a couple of things i had actually wanted (sadly not the comics) i got a few bits for other people and some more bits for meThe rest of the day was spent with a very brief chat with a friend and then visiting family which was lovely and home to another film
Today has been declared a Lazy DayWe should have been going out to spend some money on an item we've needed for a long time but the weather is horrid and i expect this will have an effect on the traffic and neither of us are in the mood to drive a 2 hour round trip in this. The hopefully good news is that this will give me a chance to start the knitting project that i should have started last week Oops! And to list the few extra things that i have to list on the bay of e and to do yet more washing and a bit of much needed tidying! Right! i'd best get to it then!!
