Hubby's decided that after a 4 year break he is going to start smoking 'only at work' ......

He has been uping the amount of cigars & and the little cigars that look like cigarettes he has been smoking usally when he goes out with the lads/poker /fishing etc... and has been having a few at work.

I stopped smoking as soon as i found out we were pregnant he didn't..... despite promising he would in fact it took another 18mth for him to 'stop'

I have to admit that I'm confused.

You've titled this thread 'Smoking at Work' and yet you say he goes into the garden to smoke.

I must say that when I smoked, no amount of nagging from anyone would make me stop. I decided on my own to stop and did. If your DH insists on smoking I do think you have every right, especially as you have children, to insist he does not smoke indoors, and ideally not infront of them either.

As for smoking only at work, I was the other way around. I stopped smoking aside from the very odd (less than a pack) crafty one when pregnant, but then started again smoking a couple a day in the evening at home. I agree with you, that because I was only smoking that 2 or 3 cigarettes they were all the more important to me, and I was much more focused on smoking than when I smoked 10-15 daily.

I recommend Allen Carr, Stop Smoking the easy way, book. Perhaps you could buy it for him ( I got mine from The Works for £3 I think) and put it some where prominent. Tell him you would really like him to stop for his health and that of the children who are much more likely to smoke if he does, aside the passive smoking, and that it's there to read when he's ready.

  • Please elaborate. Is the house your inheritence or your hubby is your pet??

Do you think is okay to force your family to breathe in your smoke? do you think they should suffer because of your disgusting habit? Smoking was always banned in my home, my father would go out to smoke. No guests are allowed to smoke in our house, they are welcome to smoke at the balcony with the door closed. Yes, even in winter.

People who have quit are always the worse. You know your more likely to get cancer standing next to a BBQ for half an hour than sitting in a room with a smoker for 3 months?! Not banning BBQ's are we. Whos the whinger?!

Ill be intrigued as where you got your statistics from?

    Could you please elaborate.

As a general point I totally agree with this.

Smokers choose to inhale the stuff...children don't.

Kids also don't get the choice to watch as a loved one dies from an all full slow death.

My granddad smoked but the coroners report showed the lung cancer wasn't one caused by smoking, so i still watched him die a horrible death but it wasn't the smoking that killed him.

True smoking doesn't always cause lung cancer, but why increase your chances soo significantly.

Also it doesn't just cause lung cancer, my mum old job share partner got cancer and circulatory problems in her legs and the doctors reckon it was caused by smoking.

Everyone concentrates on the lung damage but there plenty more, it does.
