because you cant stop someone smoking if they want to, and it sounds like hes on the slippery slope into smoking all the time again, ie at home

But the OP made the point about smoking at work.
  • If its an 'only at work' smoker that shouldn't be too bad as it'll be restricted to breaks and lunchtime.

Unless he is an outdoor worker.

I can't smoke on our premises or in any of the vehicles. Its gross misconduct if any employee does.

Why all the comments about smoking (or not) in the house?

I wondered that as well tbh

I can only surmise that the assumption is that if he smokes at work, eventually he will start craving them after work as well and the OP is worried that she will have a grumpy OH the hours he is craving his nicotine fix :(

OP I would seriously be asking him to NOT start again, even at work, it's the worst thing he could do. Also point out to him that he would just have to give up AGAIN next year if he wanted to become a house husband, so what's the point in starting again now

  • Please elaborate. Is the house your inheritence or your hubby is your pet??

How would you like me to elaborate??

I think if people choose to smoke then it should be done outside the house if there are non smokers and or kids in the same house.

As a general point I totally agree with this.

Smokers choose to inhale the stuff...children don't.

I've known shared houses where all the occupants were smokers, and they still chose to go outside to smoke, because they didn't want their living space to stink.

Most of the ones i know where everyone are smokers either smoke in just one room or outside. As it happens i smoke outside cos the fat is rented and its a non smoking property (plus my flatmate doesn't smoke so it wouldn't be fair to him).

If OPs hubby hadn't been a full on smoker before i could maybe believe he would only smoke at work ( i know of people who don't smoke except when at work) but seeing as he's basically restarting his habit how long before he starts smoking at other times

And i can shout as i stopped oh did and has gone back to it but heyho thats up to him he smokes outside his choice.

He does go into the garden to smoke / the kids have never seen him smoke either.

It just he either smokes or dosen't to be honest i am not really bothered either way - I just dont want all this 'i only smoke at work nonsense....' and by 7pm he is shouting at the kids because he wants a fag....

Hmmm I may make him a 'smoking area' round the side of the house at least i will get rid of him for a bit of an evening ;)

My husband and I decided to give up smoking when we got married nearly 25 years ago. I did and he didn't. I'm now quite healthy for my age and he's in the later stages of emphysema and on oxygen 24/7.

Move heaven and earth to get him to stop again.
