Windows7 backup failed - event viewer showing 45,000 errors .. help!

W7 when it does a back up makes a complete new file. So with previous back up's you will be filling the external Hard drive up.
My guess is if you select the external hard drive, right click it and look at the properties, you may find the drive is full.
I went to a 3rd party back up after I found it was doing that, this just updates files/folders as they change.
Hope this helps.0 -

Hope this helps.I'd also try using a freeware backup program; not that built into Windows .
Yes, I was trying to rule out also a problem perhaps specifically with Windows Backup. But I think the OP has other issues with the machine too.0 -

1) Start the computer and press f8 on boot up and select'Safe Mode without networking'.
2) In the start menu type 'cmd' (without quotes) andon the top search result right click the program and choose 'run as administrator'
3) Type "net stop winmgmt" without quotes and press enter to make certain the WindowsManagementInstrumentation (WMI) service is not running.
4) In the start menu click 'computer' on the right hand side. Go to the windows\system32\WBEM\ folder and rename the Repository folder to something else like OLDRepository (right click and choose 'Rename Folder'.
5) Reboot and restart as normal.
6) In the start menu type 'cmd' (without quotes) and at the top right click the program and choose 'run as administrator'
7) Type 'net stop winmgmt' (without quotes) and press enter to stop the wmi service.
8) Type 'winmgmt /resetRepository' (without quotes)and restart the system.
Just followed these instructions, and it's fixed the problem, now backing up with no errors. :j
Thanks for all your help and advice, especially debitcardmayhem.
Any idea why this error might have happened or if its likely to occur again?.0 -
