Could it be Ccleaner that has caused the problems?

    ^absolutely (almost!) not.

certainly McAfee could be causing potential problems (I don't use the wretched thing myself!) but u say u have disabled.??

I've now removed McAfee but the problems still occur.

I am now at work but seem to be having a problem with WRI errors (or something), all over the place. Can't run check disk program or back up, things not responding, it seems pretty serious.

Do you think I should contact Dell - as it's only 5 months old. Could it be the hard drive is on the way out?

The trouble with these situations is that: if things get worse or unresolved, they then start blaming you! So, given that it is new and the warranty stands, then yes, I'd perhaps give Dell a ring. Can u try the system restore Anderson ??

^^After 5 months! very unlikely -- I don't think the problem is related to hard drive issue.

are u experiencing any blue screen crashes ??
  • I done a system restore a couple of days ago, it won't let me do any more...just fails.

I've had some weird stuff happening previously...wouldn't wake from hibernation, said it didn't close down properly when it did, then I noticed all these errors and warnings ... 45,000 of them. Loads of cdrom errors..all sorts of things.

The Action Center was telling me that I did not have a virus protection running when I did. No firewall running when I did. Clicked on "start firewall" and nothing happens. Now I'm getting all sorts of errors. I don't want to make it unusable. Will Dell blame Microsoft? and say its' nothing to do with them?. Maybe I can claim on my credit card if I can't resolve it.

    No blue screen crashes.

^In which case, could well be a HDD issue. It's very much new and under warranty -- I'd give Dell a ring given the number of problems. I thought -- mistakenly -- this was merely a backup problem.

Thanks for your help, the back up problems led to me finding all these other errors...I'll give Dell a ring tonight.

    Thanks for your help...fingers crossed.

What AV are you using if you removed McAfee?

Probably a long shot but have you run a antivirus scan, if not try hitmanpro........

    http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro

If that finds anything also try Malwarebytes.

I ran McAfee before I uninstalled it, didn't find anything...

    Ran Malwarebytes, nothing unusual found...

    What a nightmare....

Ah well you can discount it being a virus/malware problem then.
