Curlytop, my DD has been doing those jobs since she was about 5/6.....I don't think there is anything wrong in teaching the responsibilities.....she now(almost 8) helps tp put clean, dry dishes away, puts her clean clothes away, makes her own be etc. S he has £2 a week and money gets deducted if she does things she has been told numerous times not to to(.....not bringing crockery down....not wiping herself and not flushing the toilet(lazy mare!!!) etc..etc)

msgnomey let me know how the lemon cake turns out please. My Mum has just been diagnosed with diabetes so can only eat food that it low in fat and sugar (I can replace sugar with canderel though apparently). Would be nice to make a cake that she can still eat a small piece of.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

My 8 year old daughter and nearly 5 year old daughter also have little jobs to do. The 8 year old feeds the cats, the goats and the chicks each day. She also helps to put dishes away and has been putting her own clothes away for a while now. She also tidies her own room up and makes her bed sometimes. The five has just started being helpful in the last couple of days and is finally starting to tidy her room up when asked the first time. She also tidied her older sister's room up the other day and made her bed while DD1 was out for the day. I think they have seen me tidying and cleaning since doing the lists for a little while now and have decided to help. I need them to help me a bit now and again as I am by myself during the week as DH works away and we only see him every two weeks for a long weekend. They also get pocket money for helping out.
DD1 born May 2002, DD2 born Dec 2005, DS born Dec 2008. Baby due May 2010! TEAM PINK!!

sexymouse - does your mum like fruitcake? My mum makes a good diabetic one if you want the recipe?

I am MIA, broke tooth at the weekend, bad visit to the dentist Monday, tooth out = not much done since. Tonight I have throbbed my way through making pitta breads, emptied the DW, put the WM on and given up .

OUCH hex honey that sounds sore

Sexymouse the cake is nomnomnom quite tart but delicious!!(said with a mouthful :D) dead easy to make

    3 eggs
200g sugar (whisk together until creamy),
add 2 boiled lemons which have been purreed (boil for an hour in water)
add 200g SR flour (stir in gently)
pour into a greased lined loaf tin cook for 1 hour (I'd say just less keep an eye on it, my oven is a fan oven so was a bit faster)

    cool slightly in the tin
mix together 2 tbspns sugar, 50ml lemon juice 2 tbspn orange juice (or orange flower water) pierce the top of the cake with a skewer and spoon liquid oven while still warm, allow to cool in the tin and then slice and munch!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

Evening all! I have been trying to keep the computer off for most of the time during the day as I find it too easy to lose a few hours :o I have been flying but am not sure how much of it was on the lists as I've been doing allsorts! Not made much of a dent in my school work though - must work on that tomorrow.

........... get chips on windscreens sorted before the cold and heat from the car makes the windscreen crack, happened to a friend last year. Chips are normally free on nsurance, new windscreens count as a claim!

When I had to have a new windscreen, I had to pay the excess on my policy but it didn't count as a claim or affect my no claims. I have a crack in my windscreen now that will be sorted in the next few days.
