  • Hi Earthgirl is this baby number 1 for you? I had 8 months with DD1 (waay too short but no choice), and 9 months with DD2, but really 10 months as ran it almost into summer holiday. This time I'm sticking my neck out for 12 months as I conceived at an awkward time for maximising mat leave...not that I'm complaining.

How is it going for you? Last mat leave I gave up my car, I won't do that this time - live in the back of beyond and it was a bit much - but we also managed to put central heating in the house last mat leave, so we didn't do too badly. Have to be super frugal, though, and so far it's more of an idea than a reality:eek:

  • I really have to get off my derriere and do something useful. Went bonkers ordering girls' presents last night online, but already two relatives have sent/promised to send money so we can buy them something, so looks like going overboard was the right decisions, as the rellies can pay for the overspend and also the girls get presents from them that they really want. Result.

  • Back at work today, still feel like I have been hit by a truck. Cover teacher has cleaned a load of stuff off my board that had "please leave" written on it, and locked my projector. Its waaay easier to go to work sick.

Kids missed me though, bless, em, maybe I need to be more evil!!

The advent calendar is up, ponies and all. Going to collect the new-to-us motor tomorrow and I get to cash in the car tax, may be £100 or so?

So NSD planned today and loads of work to catch up, then a fire and double Dr Who, yay!

  • Yay! Great glad tidings as the dishwasher is fixed. The bad news is DH's inability to scrape the plates properly has cost us £36 call out fee and £48 labour to remove the olive stones from the pump.

They do say that when you delegate jobs you should accept the results, but costing £84 is beyond a joke.

So much for a NSD, but pleased to have the dw working again.

  • Ouch to the cost. He will have to work hard to redeem that. More dishwasher training needed, or don't let him eat olives. ;)

It is that kind of expense that winds me up too. DS 2 has managed to pull the string off his blackout blind for the bedroom today, and i am hoping i can fix it. You just think, why when it is avoidable.

Along with when they try to help themselves to stuff like milk and juice and then spill nearly the whole container. Or, when they turn down perfectly edible food for no reason when they usually eat it.

Luckily my DH is better at fixing stuff than me.

oh no, hope the olives find a new home in future!
    June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!
  • DH is great in many ways but has zero common sense or ability to fix things. He is in a strop now because he is loading the damn thing and I asked him where the olive stones went this time - the engineer had left them in a dirty bowl...

Oh well, maybe he has learned his lesson. Its an expensive one!

Ouch to the cost of the repair!

Hope you feel 100% better soon
  • Thanks, yukkibear. Just heard some more news about MIL. She has (latest info) mesothelioma, which is about as bad as it can be for her, I think.
