  • I did baby led weaning with DS2, and purees with dS1. I know which one was preferable. :D

Annabel Karmel recipes were great, and her books were good for giving me ideas of what to try and quantities. My boys both eat lots of things others won't. She does a great prune puree for if they get bunged up when switching to weaning. Worked like a charm, and was really yummy.

She also has great sweet recipes - my friend brought me some carrot and pineapple muffins when she visited the other week, and they were divine. :D

Another vote for BLW here. I faffed about with mush with my first, but when it came to my second, I hadn't the time or the brain-space cos it was when my marriage was falling apart. In any case, she hated spoons and refused to be fed anything unless she got to put it in her mouth herself. It worked fine, and now they're older, she's a much less fussy eater than he is, although whether that has anything at all to do with how they were weaned, I can't tell, of course.

..Gratefull....."delivered smalls to school".....what exactly do snails get taught in school?

:rotfl:Whoops! I obviously read that wrong :rotfl:

My house is an absolute tip from having the bathroom done - how is all your work getting on?

Can I be nosey and ask how you're planning to wean? I've been reading about BLW and thought it sounds interesting.

At six months, which is next weekend ish!!

Confess to curiosity over BLW but worried about choking...

And the house is not too bad at the moment, but kitchen work not started yet.

So how do you do it??

Lois, you would do BLW if you were doing it now?

I am majorly stressed today, everyone is getting on my nerves. Wonder if it would be better to write it all down for a few days then read it back to see if I'm overreacting to things??

Stocked up on calpol/ibuprofen today for the flu season. Everyone got their medicine cabinets in order?

we have a 24 hr asda so only buy stuff if needed for flu etc!!

theres lots on net about BLW, i also got a lot of bumph from HV, cant remember exactly how i started with DS, think sticks of soft fruit/rusks/fruit bread/toast/boiled carrot sticks etc. they tend to just suck them at six months and still rely on their milk because they dont actually "eat" much, but its gets the taste sensations going!
  • Is there a reason we can't do both at once?

its on ice TBH, we saw a broker, he said there shouldnt be a problem getting a lender as we have low debt, hight deposit etc... but i've been offered another job, so need to decide whether i want to accept, but of course lenders liek you to be in long term employment!

Yes, I would do it that way if I were doing it now. I can't remember all the details - it's years ago now - but you just give them things they can hold in their hands, and see what they do with it. You stick the baby in a highchair when the rest of the family is eating, put some food on the tray of the highchair, and leave the baby to take it from there. They stick everything in their mouths at that age, don't they, so of course the food gets put in the mouth too. As Brodiebobs has said, they begin by sucking it. I remember cucumber sticks, apple slices, that sort of thing (peeled, of course). Nothing hard, and nothing that comes in tiny pieces, like raisins, until they've got the hang of it. You can give them cooked vegetables when the family is eating a meal, pasta, bread (without crusts). I carried on with the BF, so I knew she was getting plenty of nutrition from that.

DD never choked, but of course I didn't let her have food unless an adult was with her to keep an eye.

Not that I know of. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy. :)
