Please go the extra step and punish Nationwide for its high-handed actions.0

That was the problem. People not using the flex account as their main account and loading it up just before a trip overseas.
If you search this site for this subject you will see it has already been talked to death.0 -
I'm happy with the service I get at nationwide so I won't be changing. Other banks and building societies charge for withdrawels, so it's not like you're going to side step this problem by moving your account.Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000

Whats all the fuss about re 'Free travel insurance' I have had free travel insurance from Lloyds TSB for the last 8 years, not advertised by them but its there if you ask.0

It's extremely short-sighted of Nationwide to remove the foreign currency benefit from all members rather than impose stricter conditions to qualify. When they complain about people not using it as their main account, they're also failing to take account of the fact that their flexaccount can have saving account attached to it - I wasn't using the current account, but had thousands in saving with them.
Anyway, if you really want "revenge" on Nationwide, closing the account won't do it, it's exactly what they want. The thing to do is cycle £750 through the account every month via faster payments to qualify for the free travel insurance without generating a penny of profit to offset it.0 -
I quite cheekily use them for all my direct debits and just pay enough in each month to cover this.
I do this as they really annoyed me by not giving me the 0% creditcard deal as several years ago I had the credit card but gave it up, therefore according to them I was not eligible for the new credit card customer deal.
They also stopped paying interest on the flexaccount so I now use Lloyds for all income and transefer only what I need to cover the Direct debits and get interest on the rest.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -
I agree with the OP, I am gradually moving my savings away from Nationwide, I have also got a Halifax Clarity Card for my travel needs.
So Nationwide, it is your loss.;)0 -
I too dont see a problem, they are able to make changes when they see fit and clearly the old way wasnt viable so they changed it to entice more customers to use them for they're main account but saying that i wont use them as when ever i go in there to pay money in theres a queue so i do everything online0
