I haven't bought new clothes since last December when I bought new work outfits, because I'd put on weight and nothing fit me! Stupid me used my credit card, but I bought lots of things in the sales from places like Phase Eight, quality that will last literally years. I also got a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress off Ebay for a song :-)

However, I got a sewing machine for christmas last year, and have been making clothes ever since - I also knit my own cardigans and jumpers, much nicer and better quality than the shops - but I wouldn't call that money saving, yarn is expensive!

not all primark stuff is rubbish. i bought a fleece jumper in the £1 rack 4 years ago and still wear it. recently i bought a hand towel for £2 and thought it was fine. then i bought one in debenhams sale - a christy for £3.30 and the primark one was actually better. so can someone tell me is today's christy towels not the same as years ago. i remember my gran having them and they felt like blankets. this one in debenham's was supposedly £11.00 full price. my cynical side says they must have special ones for the sales with less 'stuff' in them.

£9 for jeans in Primark? yes, I would consider that a waste of money as not usually good quality. Better off going to a charity shop or buying from Ebay.

Make sure you check the postage on Ebay - its seems some of the sellers are getthing cheekier and cheekier with 'their costs':(

you'll have to go to your main tip, we have 'mini tips' in every town and then a main one where anything thats re-saleable goes. South Devon is really into its recycling so theres lots of bargains to be had. Have a look for a rec-yard, there might be something there??

I used to do this but had a rather embarassing experience where I was going home from work at about half six in the evening, it was absolutely pouring down and the sole literally came off my shoe. Was hopping through the puddles while some random kids laughed at me - since I was on the way to my 2nd job at the time and most of the shops were closed ended up having to buy some crappy ones from the 24hr Tesco which looked tatty in a week. Now I at least check they aren't totally dropping to bits before going out :o

I have loads of jeans, i wear jeans all the time even when i go out. I have a couple of River Island pairs, two from Top Shop, various styles from Next, and also by brands like Monsoon, New Look and Ax Paris. All nearly new from charity shops, none cost more than £3.50. There are so many clothes in nearly new condition in second hand shops if you have time to look. Haven't bought anything brand new for about a year. Got a fantastic jumper dress by White Stuff today for £5.95. Looked on their website and something similar costs about £55. I couldn't afford or justify spending that, so i am a very happy bunny today :)

I am reading this and feeling depressed that I seldom find anything decent in charity shops in my size. I need to lose weight so that I too can buy good quality jeans for under a fiver! I can only buy limited things in Primark, though more than before since they started doing PJ's and knickers in my size. Perhaps I should try ebay? Anyone know if there is lots of good stuff in size 20-22?
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
