Yeah ebay is very good for clothing. I got Timberland earthkeeper organic cotton jumper BRAND NEW WITH TAGS for ONLY £12.50 including delivery. Normally retails about £70.

I'm after a pair of cords for the winter and I'm going to pop to Sainsbury's for some today. I've found their jeans are really good quality and only cost £10, but I wait til they have their 25% off offers on and get them for £7.50. I wash and tumble dry them loads and they never lose colour or shape. I've had to go out and buy new jeans coz I've been dieting and lost 3 stone. It got to the stage where my jeans would start to fall down as I walked so I knew I just HAD to buy myself a pair - and I looked for the nicest ones I could buy for as little money as possible.
I think I'm getting to the stage where I do think before I buy something - do I really need that? and what else could that money pay for? Especially in the run up to xmas! It's much nicer to think, well that cash could go towards my son's xmas presents!
Cords are back in stores? Ideal, I have two brand new pairs (:o
) and two skirts (each worn once, maybe twice
) that I've been waiting to get rid of! Thanks! No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
newlook have a pair for £10 and thy're good quality. also they're currently giving out free magazines instore with a voucher for 20% off towards the end of the month (24th i think) theres loads vouchers in there, starting tomorrow and some can be used online too. but i can reccomend the £10 pair, it is only that on pair at this price but theyre a bootcut style so suit most people and they're sz 6-18 and leg 28,30,32 and 34! so a pair for nearly everyone!0

I covet my the two pairs of Primarni jeans that I bought for £6 each a couple of years ago - still in fab condition, but I've been eating too much to get into them. Grh! My £10 New Look jeans last a few months then get holey in the thighs and I have to buy new ones!
Still, I'm sat in a £2 Primarni dress, which I modified to make sure it fits me, and I always feel good in it. I also don't quibble about returning items that are broken/unwanted, even if they only cost a few quid. It's my few quid. I'll always ask for a discount, jokingly, just to see how far it'll take me, too. Even getting free lemonade in my Tia Maria, Lemonade and Lime bar order, as the bar man stuck his nose in my drink to see what it'd smell like.
I love the idea of saving money, so I can splurge elsewhere! Five years ago I used to walk two miles to work, twice a day, because I couldn't afford the bus fare but needed to earn: I'm not debt-free, but I manage my finances a lot better than I used to.0 -
We're not tight for money, but I still refuse to pay the ridiculous amounts most places charge for clothes as I think the pricing in many places is criminal for stuff made in Vietnam for 1% of what they're charging on the highstreet. Chuffed though, bought a new pair of designer jeans for under 2 quid last week on Ebay ^^0

Its intresting reading this. Certain things in Primark I look at and deem to expensive compared to say New Look and vice versa. However, I cant justify spending £10 on ebay...but I can in shops! No idea why that is!0

I do know what you mean, though.
I can remember being really hard up during the late 80's when our kids were small and shopping for the cheapest of cheap stuff in Kwik Save- it was a real bargain basement/jumble sale type of shop then - not a very enjoyable experience, but we all ate and we stayed out of debt. The my OH got a better job and gradually in time I was able to shop in 'normal' places like Safeways! However, after a couple of years, he was laid off, and we were back to square one - austerity measures again. I can remember even now standing in the queue waiting to go through the tills and just wanting to howl. Silly, really, because I knew we could get through it, and I knew how to get through it. I think it just felt so much harder to have to go back to living like that after I'd been able to give it up. It was only a moment, and it passed, but I don't think I'll ever forget how miserable I felt that day.
If it's any consolation, it passed, we were better off in the long run for having lived within our means and we now have a lovely home, two great kids and never had the burden of debt to contend with in addition to low income. It is worth it in the long run, I promise.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
I am joining everyone else and am constantly thinking 'I could spend that money on something else'. I am no longer embarassed about this, I just don't buy anything that is not necessary.0

We have just heard this week that our income is going down by £400 per month. Working out our figures we need to cut our shopping bill by between £25 and £50 per week. To do this I have made menus out for the next few weeks, using all the food that is gathering at the back of the freezer. So often before I used to just buy chicken, mince etc because I'd forgotten to take it out of the freezer. I reckon that by being better organised, preplanning and loading up on lots of onions, garlic, tinned tomatoes, rice and pasta I should easily be able to reduce our food bill. We our trying to have a good harty meal ever other night and something lighter such as soup and sandwiches the alternate nights (maybe we may lose a few pounds - of weight).
Once the freezer is empty I am going to try going to shops on Tuesday or Wednesday late afternoon, they often seem to have lots on the reduced counter then.
Yesterday as I walked around Tesco (with my list which I stuck to which was just everyday essentials) I was conscious of every item I put in the trolley, no luxuries and deliberately avoiding aisles I usually go down.
I feel kind of good as often I have thought I spend too much on food each week...I'm sure the novelty will soon wear off.
Going to clothes shops is a definite no no....how do I stop the kids from growing?0 -
