Well done DK!!!
Birdie - sorry to hear about the job. I think it sounds like they were very very impressed with you though. They might even come up with a better job for you!
Dinah/Birdie - Re: mould. Is it not very dangerous to have mould in bedrooms? Being honest I think I would get it professionally assessed as I know that it is especially dangerous for babies (for whenever ye are thinking of having them, it might be good to address the problem now)
Sorry I can't remember what anyone else said. Baby brain has taken over!
I had a great weekend at home and didn't spend a euro as my Mam and Dad treated me. I even got a topIt was great to spend time with my family and OH got on great with Max.

On the TV - Jesus! What the hell does a 2 year old need a telly for?! She shouldn't be on her own watching tv she should be downstairs playing. I hate it when kids have tvs in their rooms as they just migrate to the different corners of the house and miss out on family life. And it's a ridiculous price too. At her age I bet she'd rather have something to play with anyway.
I agree with this. A TV is way too much for a 2 year old. OH's nephew had a portable DVD player at the age of 3 (which he wrecked) and I thought it was ridiculous. My friends child had a TV/DVD combo in her own room at the age of 3 and I also thought this was way too OTT. I don't even have a TV in my own bedroom, although I would love one I must admit!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

I agree a TV at 2 is rediculous! Definately talk to your OH and find something else.
Dinah - does seem it might have been the mattress if the walls are OK, I am no expert though!
Glad you had a lovely time CMD and that is greay your OH and Max had some quality male bonding time hehe.0 -
I decided that it would be against my principles to buy her a TV (new or old) as I would not buy one if I had a 2 year old but felt a bit like if its what teh Mum wants then......... My Sister and I got our first TV's for our 11 birthdays. So we ordered her a dolls pram, doll and clothes instead (cost £25).
Sometimes I think I might have some old fashioned views on bringing children up, I hate them watching loads of TV/playing computer games, children should spend more time playing, going outside, playing board games, jigsaws etc. Would not buy my child a dsi etc. I also hate the way little girls dress sometimes, saw a 3-4 year old on Saturday dressed like an 18 year old going clubbing. They should be children for as long as possible if you ask me.

I completely agree Tasha! Children are only little for a short time, they shouldn't be rushed to grow up IMO! I got my first TV for christmas when I was 10 or 11 but I'm a bit of a fidget so I could never just sit and watch TV, I'd always be doing other stuff whilst it was on like playing with my toys, drawing, jumping on the bed... I'm going to be such a mean Mum, I'll be poking my kids all the time to make them get up and do something active and/or productive! My Mum was like that though, and she was pretty strict about what I wore. I remember really wanting some high heels but I wasn't allowed them because I was too young so she ended up compromising and getting me some slip-on shoes without laces/buckles! I thought I was so grown up because I didn't have to fasten my party shoes! Ah the good old days! Now I dread getting out the high heels, they look nice but they hurt!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I agree that children should do lots of activities rather than be stuck indoors all the time. But with regards some things, like a DSi (for example) I would get it for them when they get to a certain age as I wouldn't want them to be different from people their own age and excluded from things (very important at a certain age & within reason). However, I would limit the time and ensure that using it (or whatever was in at the time) was 1 part of the day alongside outdoor stuff and creative things.
Totally agree about the clothes. I hate to see young girls wearing ridiculous clothes.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Hadn't thought about it like that, I would never want my child to be bulied or left out (I was, had to change schools), guess its about limiting the time they use them.
How is everyone doing with tehir Xmas shopping? I am all done except my OH I have no idea what to get him and he has not asked for anything, he wants a surprise.........

It's so hard to juggle between them being left out and then spoiling them though, so I see where you are coming from totally
My Xmas shopping is not going too bad. Just need to get something else for FIL, my OH's present (a kindle e-reader), a few small bits and pieces for Max and something small for my Mum, plus my family KK present. FIL and my mother are the nightmares!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

OMG, had so much to catch up on....
Sorry to hear about the job Birdie, what's for you won't go past you as they say!
Tasha, a tv for a 2 year old is ridiculous, a girl in my work has just bought her 11 year old son a 32" LCD tv to be wall-mounted in his bedroom - !!!!!!! I don't even have a 32" tv (still have my 7 year old tv and before that it was a portable).
Can't remember anything else, think I am having some senior moments.....0 -
My Christmas shopping has been a little hit-and-miss so far! Got some of OH's cheap 'filler' presents but not the main stuff yet. Got half of SIL's hamper sorted. Got ideas for brother's hamper but nothing bought yet! I know what my Mum wants (£30 budget... in true Mum Form she's asked for £45's worth of presents!), yet to buy it. My dad is a total mystery. OH's brother's secret santa present is half done. Out of 24 presents to go in OH's advent calendar I've got...6! Nothing fits in the stupidly small buckets, which I still haven't finished decorating and numbering! God, I really need to get a crack on! I don't even want to think about the Christmas cards that I haven't started to make! Argh, getting Christmas Stress!
I've just remembered it's OH's theory test tomorrow and he keeps 'forgetting' to revise and do practice tests. If he doesn't pass he's not getting anything more for Christmas!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary.
