Exciting stuff about being home soon Lara! Did your OH enjoy visiting? Have you got safari photos?

Congrats Wendz, knew it had to be one or the other (I secretly guessed girl too).

Had a hectic few days, got my wedding dress at the weekend, have had no gas (nor heating) since yesterday and had a mad-man with a gun running round our village - police helicopter, dozens of cop cars and sniffer dogs! I need a drink.......

Quote of the thread goes to Swinstie.

C'mon, lets see some piccies of the frock!

Dinah the new car sounds very good, when will you get it do you think? and when will you be able to drive again (sorry im so out of the loop!)

Hoping to really start saving and making extra cash properly but its pretty slow going at the moment. Dinah are you on myvoice? I've always found them good (but true, slow) and you've inspired me to go back onto onepoll. Do you go on it everyday to just check for surveys? What other money making things are you thinking of at the mo that I can maybe copy? (I don't have anything to really sell right now though :( ) ooo Also, I hope the business plans are going well!!

Hoping to be dricing within a fortnight, but could still be a few months if I can't handle an emergency stop.

Is myvoice the new Itsyourview survey site? If so NIM is, I don't do many of the surveys tbh, although I do onepoll as its quick and easy.

I'm afraid atm I'm traditional, a bit of mystery shopping, a lot of ebay, some quido-ing for free offers.

Is it fogtastic everywhere else? The windows here are just white, I can see nothing!

Yep, I was stood in our bedroom this morning unable to see the house on the other side of the street!

Work is really quiet today. Need to start thinking of new ideas to drum up some work for the chaps. We've tried just about everything, urgh :( As quickly as it started getting better we've come to a massive standstill and it looks like we might be having to let some more people go. I honestly think it's just going to be me, my brother and cousin left soon. Rattling around in an Office far too big that's taunting us from when the company was booming. How bloody dreadful does that sound?? I know I have to think pretty nice thoughts but it's so hard at the moment.

Really sorry to hear that Cinny, it's not the time of year for it either really.

Didn't hit my ebay target last night (suprise suprise) but I did manage to list about £250 of stuff so thats a start. Going to try to list another 10 items or so this evening (out at physio so won't get back until 7.30ish, then tea).

I think we're in the worst place we've ever been financially, its really scary. We've had to borrow £600 off my grandad to get the works done to NIMs car and we're paying him back on payday. I'd LOVE to be able to make that much on ebay in the next week to try to absorb it but it's a LOT to make in a week so I'm just going to push as hard as I can. Its certainly a real incentive to get on with it. NIM is being awesome atm by doing the housey stuff such as ironing, the dishwasher, moping the floor on an evening etc in order that I can just sit down and sell stuff. We also have a big storage box full of CDs and DVDs he's going to list on Amazon on the weekend. I have lots of clothes too, but I'm focussing on the BIN higher value items first, hopefully someone will buy them as presents.

Our next door neighbour is getting a kitchen extension, and I can't help being annoyed at ourselves that if we had this ammount in savings not debt we could do a nice extension across the back of the house to replace the leaky conservatory and extend the kitchen. Can't see us getting there for quite some time but its a goal to work towards!

Need to find time this weekend to work on business plan 1, and hopefully start business plan 2. Need to also book to go see business link again. I'm quite torn between the immediate (sticking things on ebay, doing surveys) or taking a gamble on the long term and working on the business plans. I think right now I need to get out of the mire and thats the priority that we get a bit of breathing room, but I want both business plans done by the end of December, and I want business 1 to have started the funding process for the website.

Sorry, I know thats as easy to read as chinglish since I haven't ever actually given many details of the two businesses!

  • Dinah - don't beat yourself up. You have done so well to get rid of your debt in the first place, then save up for a wedding AND buy a house as well. It was inevitable that there were going to be extra costs here and there for you and NIM.

You will be debt free again. Try not to worry so much. You are both so young and have achieved so much already

    Hello all,

Loving all the toys, they are so cute! I have seen some nice clothes on Debenhams and they are 25% off at the mo so might order some.

Dinah - sorry to hear things are bad financially, hopefully you will start making headway soon. The buying of the house and car etc are big expenses but will all pay off in the end for you. Just keep doing what you are doing!

I am actually getting somewhere on a couple of survey sites, have just paid out on one and am close on a couple of others. Need the money as we have a few things to pay off before i am on maternity leave.

Fine, don't want nerds like you in the club anyway! ;)

In the words of Drew Carey: "Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar."

You had be confused for a minute when you said NIM had been 'moping' the floor Dinah, I was thinking, why is moping about things helpful??? Ahhhh... Mopping!

Try not to get too worried about money right now, it'll right itself soon enough! Just try to not get too carried away buying Christmas presents this year as it'll put even more pressure on! Didn't you say you'd spent £100 on something for your brother? I don't want to sound like Scrooge, but I think your family would understand if you cut spends down to £50 this year, especially if it'll save you from having a meltdown over money and the lack thereof!

I was going to suggest the same as Birdie for presents this year. My family know me and OH are rather short on pennies so aren't expecting much. I've spent £80 on everyone on my side this year. I managed to get my parents a day out voucher on a Chilli Farm tour when LastMinute had it on offer for £15. Do feel kind of cheap only spending £15 on my parents but I know they'll love it.

Must be hard trying to juggle work, keeping a house and making extra money. Don't be so hard on yourself, it'll all fall into place at some point.

Agree with Birdie and Cinny. We have cut out Secret Santa this year and I am just buying something for my nephew and a token gift for my Mam and Dad.

I'm honoured to have quote of the thread - I'm not as dumb as I sound though, honest :D

Still don't know what happened with the gun-man, haven't heard anything, boring eh! And it is a nice little village, honest guv!

Dress isn't on the website as it was a sample, apparantly by Anna Christina (London designer I believe)! Can't find any piccies but it's quite similar in style to number 7 dress of the attached. Also tried on the one shown in the big pic but it was so damn heavy.

Ooooh I like it Swinstie! You'll have to post a real pic (I'm a nosey parker!). What's happening with your wedding? When and where is it happening?
