Hi Again,
I really need some help if poss.
2 days ago, thanks to Albatross, I discovered my wireless connection wasn't secure, I telephoned Linksys and they talked me through some security issues which then solved the problem.
Today, unable to get on-line, have looked for other connections in the area & have managed to get on-line using someone elses connection, I think.
Anyway, my desktop PC, which by the way, following a thread on MSE I have downloaded some security, ie, Ccleaner, and some other virus checkers, and this seemed to really clear out a lot of unused programs & speed up my PC.
My problem is, my Desktop PC isn't showing any windows, just a blank screen with my own screensaver on it. I have powered everything off, back on again, managed to load windows, but as soon as I try and click on anything, the PC completely freezes & I have to re-boot.
I've telephoned Telewest & they talked me into bypassing the router and plugging their modem directly into my Laptop, and I was able to get on-line.
Can anyone give me any help at all as to what the matter with my PC may be, & how to get my windows back!

if you are this is illegal
can you boot into safe mode?0 -
Could you remind me how to start in safe mode, thanks0

Just found how to start in safe mode, what will this achieve?0
-
For Win XP:
# If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
# Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
# Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
# Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
# Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.0 -

Hi, just tried to do this & i'm getting an error message-System Restore detects that the following drives are missing: D.
Any ideas?0 -
BTW, after rebooting several times, I now have windows loaded, but when I try to get on-line, there is no connection. Am worried about clicking anything else in case I lose windows again?(Running ME)0

I would wait and get a friend to hook up your hard drive as a slave and take all the files off it you need.
Then, reformat - with XP. ME is dung.0 -
