oh yes so I did! how silly of meJeremyMarried 9th May 20090

The shop and helpline staff were all pleasant and....all told me the 'wrong' thing - I am sure not deliberately so it is a management and training problem. I used to work in a shop myself so I do know what you mean. My problem is with management - threatening and intimidatory phone calls and emails and refusal to abide by the law on distance selling contract cancellation. Plus refusal to honour agreements made with their own staff.
I haven't been rude, arrogant, demanding, lying or stupid (well maybe the latter for buying from this company in the first place). The JLD managers on the other hand could not have been much more unpleasant or arrogant.0 -

Was their money good enough for you, or did you refuse to take their money as a matter of principle because they were such awful people?Jem8472 wrote:I liked the link johnlewisexposed, too many crack pots out there with too much time on their hands.
You think people are "crack pots" for pointing out that a major UK retailer won't honour important consumer legislation such as the Sale of Goods Act and Distance Selling Regulations, etc.? I'd hate to live in your world where no one ever complained and these capitalist giants got away with murder.0 -
I'd hardly call John Lewis a capitalist giant! Far from it.0

I know considering they share the profits with all the employees!
Also witht he johnlewisexposed thing. How long would you expect a hard disk to last? a year? 2?3?4?
I would think it really depends what it was used for, if the guy was using it as a sever then 2 years is probably a good life span. What went wrong? did he get spyware and viruses on it? If so would you blame john lewis?
Also incase anyone reading this does not know how amazing a hard disk is inside watch this video. The read/write heads are so close to the surface of the disk that they will hit a fingerprint!
Hard disk problems
As for the would I take money from the arrogant lying customers, if it was my shop I owned and they were rude, unkind and nasty to my shop assistants no I would not. You dont need customers like that! they need to grow up and learn to treat people properly.
But next time if you want to try something and noise is a worry ask if they could set a room up, you will probably find that they will be very helpful.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
Hi Jeremy, well in-store the computer dept head bloke told me to order online so that if the noise bothered me I could return for full refund as per the DSRs!!!!
JLD have gone all silent on me. They may not be Enron (!) but they are one of the UK's largest retailers, including online retailers.0 -
Solid state hard drives are dear for a 32GB you are looking to pay over £2,000 approx.0

JLD have been reading the law, the DSRs and now say that I they are 'sure I am correct' but that I have "opened" the software (by activating the pre-loaded XP presumably???? que????). This is the 4th different argument for saying no refund; we are above the law.
The DSRs exclude unsealed computer software, like a game etc, so now they are latching on to that.0 -

.
BUT this isn't ther reason you state you want to return it.
Not being able to afford it due to some unconnected incident is not covered by the DSR as I read it.
Clearly however, anyone who disagrees with your own personal opinion on this thread is completely wrong.
I would advise getting sales assistants to put things in writing in future. Don't take people on their word, as without witnesses, verbal agreements are worthless.
After all, would you trust the word of Tony Blair?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
