Uh oh, virus

A friend asked me to clean his laptop, I've managed to use CCleaner but can't open Malwarebytes, I've downloaded it again and installed it again but it still won't work.

I've restarted in to safe mode with networking and done a hijackthis scan and this is the result:

AVG? What a surprise.

Download and save Hitman Pro to your Desktop(or USB drive if necessary).

Once saved, hold down the Ctrl key situated on the left of the keyboard whilst double clicking on the Hitman Pro .exe file in order to start the program. Then follow the simple instructions.

its AVG but also the owner of this laptop knows nothing about security and 'forgets' to use the software I've downloaded to it (Malware and CCleaner) and brings it to me when it gets clogged up with carp

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
Right-click the network connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
On the General tab (for a local area connection), or the Networking tab (for all other connections), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
Click Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Remove the O17 entries using HijackThis.

I'd delete the no name no file stuff -then use ccleaner /tools/startup to disable everything from startup except mouse/ av.
Follow above advice.
Then try malwarebytes,update, full scan-remove found items.

Some people like avg (I don't ; much prefer Avast:cool: ) but in conjunction with this: MalwareBytes paid version is a really safe bet. It's a one-off payment and lifetime product/.

at £17. it's well worth the peace of mind it provides .
