Advice - STAY OFF YOUR PHONE WHILE DRIVING !!!0 -
Everyday I see lots of drivers who think the law does not apply to them and that their call or text is so important that the safety of others does not matter.
3 points and a £60 fine is not a deterrent to all the idiots that can’t restrain themselves. I think the fine should be increased to £500 and 6 points, even a 30 day driving ban should be considered.
Yes this might seem harsh when you can mug someone on the street and get a lesser sentence but until the punishment becomes draconian most of these drivers will just carry on breaking the law.0 -
A few years ago, before this was a specific offence, I can guarantee that just about every driver who has read or contributed to this thread had used their mobile phone whilst driving. It's also a sure thing that many of us still do (though hopefully to a lesser degree).
It seems a sensible enough law but lets none of us pretend that we never, ever, do anything distracting or law-breaking whilst driving (eating, drinking, checking or applying make-up, rubber-necking, arguing, speeding etc, etc).
My name is reduceditem and I have used my mobile whilst driving.0 -
According to the latest stats, its not phoning or texting its checking their social network sites like Facebook and Twitter.

It's like every other motoring offence, while there is only a very remote chance of getting caught people will carry on offending, there's no real deterant.
Personally I can honestly say I have never ever used a mobile phone when driving, I do carry one for emergency purposes only but thats it. Driving and eating? That'll be the one that catches me:o, but can't figure out why you can get done for eating say a banana but not smoking a cigar?????????.
(why did I get a flash view of bill clinton just then):)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
The law against using a mobile phone while driving is a silly knee-jerk reaction to a problem for which laws already existed, mainly those of careless or dangerous driving.
The underlying problem is that too many see a car as a tool to get from one location to another, and have no interest in road safety.
I see people with poor driving standards every time I'm out on the bicycle or in the car. They're not necessarily using a mobile phone. They're just bad drivers.0 -

That is true for 90% of the laws introduced or amended over the last 13 years.0 -
I can't agree. The problem regarding careless/dangerous driving is that it has to be proven, whereas using a mobile phone whilst driiving is a distraction, FACT, so it's a lot easier to bring in a blanket ban to deal with the problem.Pew_Pew_Pew_Lasers! wrote: »The law against using a mobile phone while driving is a silly knee-jerk reaction to a problem for which laws already existed, mainly those of careless or dangerous driving.

I'd actually like to extend the ban to pedestrians. No use of a mobile phone unless you are stationary with your brain engaged.0 -
Remember not only is it an offence to use your phone, its an offence to even pick it up and put in your pocket while driving.
But you are OK to use it as a Dictaphone as long as you can afford the lawyer.0
