Ouch! That sounds horrible, and I think a cuppa and some chocolate might be in order.
This is more a DIY suggestion than medical, but you can get steri-strips from chemists that might help keep it closed? I found them great after surgery on the palm of my hand (my dentist friend also stuck it together with superglue - that was great, but not sure it's best medical practice!)
I seem to remember reading that superglue was originally developed as a medical glue. Probably why it's so good at sticking small children's fingers together when they give the tube a squeeze to see what happens.
Hope it heals up soon alias. Don't forget that you'll be off washing up duties for at least a month

i was pulling a ring pull lid off a can of soup, and you know how the last bit is a sod to release? Well, i pulled the lid to the right (i'm left handed, my right hand was holding the tin) and the lid sliced my hand - only 1/2 inch long. i went to a&E and got it stitched - it wasn't that bad - they numbed the area and put in 3 stitches. i really hate needles and i looked away for that bit but i watched them put the stitches in!
p.s. - is yout tetnus up to date?Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

Yes, said dentist is actually a surgeon who specialises in repairing facial trauma (get me with my clever clogs friends :rotfl:) and she said she uses it in theatre all the time - however when she stuck my hand back together, she went to Boots and bought eyelash glue! :rotfl:
It did work, but not sure I'd fancy giving it a go myself, apparently you have to be very accurate and only glue the topmost layer of skin - I wouldn't trust myself to get it right at all - definitely best left to those who know what they're doing imo!0 -
loads of sympathy from me!!! want a giggle though?
my son was using a Stanley knife the other week and completly forgetting he had it in his hand (opened) scratched his head - and stabbed himself behind the ear!!! quite deep and it bled for ages! I shouldnt laugh but honestly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It DID need a stitch but he couldnt be arrrrsed to drive 15 miles down to A&E so got me to patch it together with cut up bits of steri strip. healed quite nicely too!0 -
pfft - Stanley Knife cut's nowt compared to a corned beef tin cut
However, with both types of cuts it's important to maintain good hygiene. That means no pot washing (germs), no housework (dust mites), no DIY (DIY tools in the hands of amateurs may lead to loss of nerve), no driving (dangerous if hand signals can't be given).
However - chocolate is a great healer..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
aaah alias hope you're soon better, l#ve had a fair few stanley knife cuts through work but none as bad as yours, l really hate that strange feeling you get all down your body when you do things like this.
Don't know how long your house is taking to improve but ours has been 5 years  the end is in sight though
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
Eeek Alias, that sounds sore:eek: Never cut myself with a stanley, have sliced my thumb open with a razor blade though. Ouchy, still get shivers just thinking about it!The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

OP, Hope its okay now however if it becomes sore after a few days or red, you MUST contact your doctor or go to your nearest accident and emergency department!
I hope the blade was clean and you washed it to prevent secondary infection0 -
There are clearly several great minds at work here, even if we do appear to be giving medical advice!pixelation wrote: »Ouch in sympathy. See how it goes for now. Money saving vs hand losing??
Is your tetanus up to date?
