Just out of interest any letter sent to you second class re a decision on DLA is going to be a NO.

I have just had a look at my DLA decision letters as I have them in the envelopes and a couple of them don't show first or second class on the envelope, but there was one I received in April which is a second class - and which was a YES decision! So I don't know if 2nd class is an indication one way or the other.

Drafted up a letter over the last few days asking them to reconsider my application in conjuction with the points I raised in my letter. I addressed each of their 'you're not getting it because..' points individually and fully and probably better than my initial application as its less painful to type than to write.

I also noted that I felt as though I were being penalised for carrying on working.....don't get me wrong it would be so much less painful to spend life between the sofa and bed (and I personally know people with the same sort of thing that I have that do this...and receive DLA) but while I can work I want to continue working and the DLA will enable me to do little things that will help me do that.

I'll let you know when I hear back, thanks for taking the time to read xx

Good luck with your reconsideration letter to the DLA jc2703. Glad you've found the strength to write to them, well done you ... I know it's hard when you've had a knock back .

I do think writing and asking for a reconsideration is the right way to go and if you are then turned down to go to appeal. It shouldn't (in my opinion) be a letter expressing anger, disappointment or any other form of emotion about their decision but an explanation of reasons why you feel their decision was the wrong one.

Addressing each point individually and fully is the best way - it's good you feel you have given a fuller account in the letter that perhaps you didn't initially on the form.

Let us know how it goes.;)
  • Yes, well done on getting your head together so quickly. Good luck with the reconsideration and I hope it's positive for you.

Working is irrelevant to DLA, unless you claim (or try to) for something that contradicts your job description. (ie, working as a chef and claiming you can't cook a meal for one)

No - I work in an office and i'm seated for all of the day and have nothing 'strenous' to do. The hardest part is getting out of bed and ready and getting there - the actual work bit is probably the easiest part of the day!

Posted my letter on Monday and I rang them yesterday just to clarify that I have a month from their response to my request for reconsideration to put forward an appeal if I need to. They said I should hear something in a few weeks...more sleepless nights!

  • none of you say why you have applied or what your problems are.
I have just been turned down for the second time but this time i have appealed and am awaiting the outcome. I was diagnosed with mild arthritis of the hips but one hip is far worse than the other and i walk with a permanent limp. i am constantly in pain but admit that sometimes it is worse than others. I do not walk my dog anymore as i would be laid up for the day if i did i go everywhere i the car even then driving (clutch ) hurts me . I am insensed that they think we should not be able to walk anywhere before it is awarded as millions of people get this benefit who can do so. I will let you know how i get on.

Mild arthritis shouldnt ever warrent an award for DLA, ever because everyone has it by the age of 40!

I know someone else has already said something in response to the above post but I wanted to add that I've just this morning had a DLA decision letter, been awarded an indefinite award and it came second class and so, just because it's second class, doesn't mean it's a no, it wasn't for me!

(I know someone has already pointed this out but, in case it gets missed, just reiterating it as I know how worrying these pieces of information can be if you come online to find something out!)
  • good luck with the reconsideration my son was turned down 1st time and i asked for a reconsideration and 4 weeks after my son was awarded i was going to appeal if they refused keep going and let us know how you get on
