Cyclone I understand what you're saying, but just for balance- my decision (HRC and HRM with no medical first time claim) was only last week, I was surprised but obviously some claims are going through ok. I hope you and jc are succesfull soon

I think a few folks here offering advice have to realise that things have changed, both recently and radically, any advice about I got this or that, is irrelevant unless in the present time, ;)
Sorry but it is true, it is here and it is happening to us ALL :(

My renewal did happen recently ;)

I was awarded high rate of both, without a medical, without the need to appeal.

I honestly believe that the tales of them failing everyone so that they can appeal the decision, is false, tbh.

I do too. Same with apparently turning down most new claims.

Sorry to hear you were turned down, OP.

Do ask them to reconsider the decision as someone else will then take a look at it, I believe.

I think you to fail to realise what has happened in the last few weeks/days. That's recent, not last year. And yes, I am in the same (leaking) boat ;)

It was this year around 6 months ago - I received their decision from reconsideration in April - which I think is pretty recent.

I do realise and know very well what has happened in the last few weeks and days. I am sorry if you have been turned down or are in the process of appealing (I haven't read any post of yours to know your circumstances sorry) but I too have been through the process - I just shared my recent experience.

    There are people being awarded.
  • jc, I am sorry to hear you were turned down. You always retain that bit of hope even when you think you believe you'll have to Appeal. Take some time to pick yourself up and get whatever help you can with Appeal. I am currently getting excellent support from WRO and my original application was completed with the help of Social Services.

Pipkin, sorry, I should have made it clearer. Yes, mine was a first time claim. Have been self-funding completely for the last 5 years but savings have finally run out and I can no longer fund my own care. I am annoyed with myself for not applying when the financial need wasn't so great for me so it wasn't such a big deal, but I'm struggling without care and help that I can no longer afford to buy in.

I hate that the letters come on Saturday as I tend to stew about things until I can take positive action.

Hope you can find some peace this weekend, jc. Stay in touch.

H'mmm 6 months ago was pre crisis, or before we knew about the crisis which is my point. All I am saying is that more people will be refused from NOW than were previously. I am on DLA, have never had a medical and never been refused so have no axe to grind with anyone. My medical history is very complete having had failed surgery which left me with nerve damage, and an acciident shortly afterwards in which amongst things I fractured my skull in 2 places, fractured my neck and fractured my back. I don't mind an interview or medical but seems a little pointless in some cases. No offence.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I understand the point you are making cyclonebri1, and no offense taken, however, I may be naive but I really don't think (so far) that DLA decision makers are being made to refuse claimants because of the crisis.

I also have no axe to grind either, I have had a medical in the past and before that claim I have been in 2 tribunals as I was refused a few years ago. Since then I have been awarded HRC and HRM indefinite, however I'm sure I like many will be assessed again due to changes.

same here, I havnt had a medical and Ive always had the right award since I claimed DLA many moons ago, it was a life time award when it was given, Ive never been refused and when I started to need night time care my award was changed straight away without any problems or having to fill in any forms (it was done after one phone call, easy).

My medical records are also complete/accurate and they tell anyone reading them that Im severly disabled so when the medicals start in 2013 I shouldnt have a problem, anyone who dosnt have recent evidence in there medical records of their disability/s should to start to build it now or they will have problems.

More people are being turned down for a variety of reasons, the main one being urban myths that say everything is a disability so everyone should get DLA, and always at the highest rates, for anything like dyslexia or needing glasses (both true examples), the next reason is no evidence of any disabilities or only old evidence (over 6-12 months is old) or badly filling in the forms or relying on the DWP to collect evidence on your behalf.

Lastly its the DMs actually following the precise regs, they became very slack and many people got DLA who should never have been awarded it in the first place and they are now being turned down on renewal, they are understandingly very angry at the refusal when their conditions havent changed but if they look at the regs they never fulfilled the conditions for DLA in the first place.

I applied for DLA about 8 weeks ago (after having put it off for 3 months...) and I called them on Tuesday to see if there was any progress and they said they received the form from my GP dated 12th October and they wrote up the decision letter on the 15th October. This letter then gets posted from a central office second class and takes about a week to get here.

I'm so impatient!! I don't know what this means (never applied before) is it a good sign that they received the GP's report and made a decision straight away or a bad one???

Anyone have any words of wisdom (except the ones about patience being a virtue:p)?
