    It's the 'Conservative and Unionist' party because it was formed by the merger of the Conservative Party and the Liberal Unionist Party at the beginning of the 20th Century. Nothing to do with Scotland at all I'm afraid.

    I haven't argued, defended nor stated any opinion on the size of the subsidies in this thread. Nor am I going to waste my time posting any more links up ( I tend to post the relevant part and then the link to 'back up my source'.. old habits from my midwifery days die hard)..
    They do pay - and get more back.

    However, a quick search reveals a growing number of studies over the last few years, ascertaining that Northern Ireland and then LONDON get more back per capita than Scotland does. Especially with, in more recent reports, with the Olympics taken into account.
    It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
    But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
