I was quite amused yesterday when the Shadow Chancellor, in his response to Osborne's ideology-driven cuts, underlined how there is no electoral mandate whatsoever for them outside of England and drew attention to what a 'one nation Tory' now actually means.0

Well that was fair enough. There was no English mandate for wall to wall socialism when his lot were in power.0 -

Even more reason to kick them out and let them take care of themselves.
So . . the entire forum is in violent agreement.
The Scots want self-determination and say they are economically self-sufficient. Perfect. They say they didn't vote for this Government. Even better.
Let's us know when they're leaving and we'll stop all the subsidies, grants, benefit payments to Scottish families, and give them a farewell party as a nice gesture of no hard feelings.

If - as you are implying - the Scots contribute more to the UK economy than it takes (frankly, i doubt that, but i'll take your word for it), then good luck to you. Your people also want independence. Good good . we're all agreed on that.
Even more reason to kick them out and let them take care of themselves.
No, I didn't imply anything luv. Calm down. I posted up links to suggest reasons why the Tories in particular are so rabidly keen on keeping the Union as it is. And it ain't any love of the Scots. Did you even read them ? Here's some more hints for you reported in recent days and months.Oil & Gas UK Economics Director Michael Tholen said Britain's North Sea oil and gas output would slip to around 2.35 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) from 2.48 million in 2009 and 2.64 million in 2008.
But investment was increasing, to between 12.6 billion pounds (19.4 billion dollars) and 14 billion pounds this year from 12.3 billion pounds in 2009, with 5 billion pounds going on capital expenditure...
Oil & Gas UK believes that Britain is still sitting on as much as 25 billion barrels of oil equivalent and says the North Sea should still be producing around 1.5 million boepd by 2020 as long as it continues to attract adequate investment. ( Feb 24 2010).

July 9, 2010The stars have been aligning for the UK oil industry for some months. Earlier this year, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) received bids for 365 blocks in the 26th licensing round for exploration, the biggest show of interest from the industry since 1964..

A lot of investment and a LOT of new technology just around the corner. Don't ever think the Tories don't know it either ! They know exactly..
Scotlands only got 5 million peeps to take care of.So . . the entire forum is in violent agreement.
No. I'm still on the fence. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Nahhh, I never read links.
If posters are too lazy to articulate arguments themselves, relying instead on selective posting of links that support their argument, they don't deserve to be clicked.0 -
Wales & Northern Ireland very hacked off...
In all seriousness it's a stupid [STRIKE]racist[/STRIKE] provocative thread...
Surely there are people against the cuts from Scotland and England too?
It's what the opposition do!
All parts of the UK have been treated in a similar way way from what I've seen despite some claims on this thread.
bendix, short sighted and you sound like a cocky property developer pre pop :rotfl:0 -
Crikey Bendix you are a typical tory muppet! We must have all forgot that it is YOU personally that provides these grants and subsidies my how stuuuuuuupid are we!
Wales can be cut off from England with a giant chain saw as far as I am concerned I still know where I would rather be living and bringing a family up
And if it happens the Welsh here can then SELL YOU the natural gas that is being piped all the way through Wales to keep your fat fingers warm in winter!!
All the best with your little debacle!
OH PS
SHAKETHEDISEASE your are so right in sooooo many ways I would not expect some of these muppets to understand

But just to point out..
That I wasn't arguing the toss about any the 'size' of any subsidy. I don't want to be here all day defending or attacking various points of the Barnett formula or the Calman report. .
You don't need to defend things the authors of are them selves saying were wrong or wrongly and unfairly applied!0 -
Come on now lets be fair, the reason the English act like they do, as a lot to do with the fact that they came originally from Germany.
Oh love em, they can't shake the stigma off0
