...........................

First Minister for Wales says spending cuts will send Wales back into recession.

Gerry Adams accuses No.10 of breaking promises.

I expect Osbourne to increase military funding for a full on attack of Bridgend (obviously without air support from a carrier - unless he delays the actual attack & just talks tough for 9 years)....

Hang on a minute? Isn't Gerry Adams a republican, keen to shake off the yoke of tyranny that is British control

How ironic that that doesn't include shaking off the yoke of British funding.

Stuff Northern Ireland and Wales. If they want independence, let them have financial independence too.

But of course they don't . . they want political independence while we still have to support them financially.

When their students receive the same in loans and grants and when they pay the same for dentists and prescriptions they can moan. Until then.....

Give them their full independence, then they'll realise that they cost the UK far more than they give back. A-holes.

After the Scottish and Welsh parties tried to blackmail the Tories during the forming of the coalition into complete immunity from all forms of spending cuts, thus placing the entire £83bn burden on the shoulders of the English alone, totally refuting that they had any hand in adding to the deficit at all... I have no sympathy.

I also see from the Spending Review that Scotland, Wales and NI all get increases in their handouts funded by the English taxpayer:

    Scotland £24.8bn (2010) → £25.4bn (2014)
    Wales £13.3bn (2010) → £13.5bn (2014)
    NI £9.3bn (2010) → £9.5bn (2014)

Nice cuts there. They ought to shut up really.

Why do the English keep carping on about this ? If you want free prescriptions, uni fees etc etc then fight for it. Look to your own MPs and start there. The Scottish, Welsh and Irish devolved governments get thier allocations, and then decide on what they want to prioritise with it. Education, Care for the Elderly and prescription fees were put top of the agenda there. Simple as that. Wht's your problem with that ? That your own parliamentary representative(s) didn't do the same for you ? You're trotting out venom aimed at the wrong people quite frankly.

You can't surely be so shortsighted...

Because of course no-one there pays any taxes at all into the pot..* rolls eyes

No further post from me on this, these sort of threads always turn into a Scots/Welsh and Irish bashing session. Yawn.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Lets face it you can apply that type of rule to any thread on this board or DT.

I look forward to no more posts from you on either ;)

Not enough to support themselves, no, which surely is the essence of the devolution / independance they say they want all the time.

Of course, devolution is just an easy way around it, isn't it? It's having political independance from the tyranny of the English on the one hand, while still having the freedom to go cap in hand taking more money from the state than you hand back in taxes.

If the welsh, scottish, irish want independance, have the guts to go the full hog. That means financial independance too.

Because the grant given to Scotish, Welsh and Northern Irish Government bodies (local, regional and national) effectively mean that England gives a large subsidy to the rest of the United Kingdom.

The local Government for Scotland for example can afford to pay various welfare benefits because more is paid out to Scotland than is taken in taxes.

Unless you're some Labourite halfwit that thinks you can spend more as a Government than you can take in tax then you should realise that ultimately we all have to live within our means, Governments included.

    You're not a Labourite Halfw.........oops, sorry. I remember.

You're totally missing the point. I have no problem with paying for my own prescriptions, that isn't the issue. My problem is with my taxes funding people in the same position as me to have things for free just because they live in a different part of the UK.
