HELP - HSBC Bank Account Closure

I received a letter today from HSBC advising that they are giving me 30 days notice that they are closing my current account! A current account I have had since 2000 ! I use the account every month not as much as I used to but it is in constant use.
I am after advice
Can I appeal this? I have read that banks are supposed to treat customers fairly I don’t think this is fair. I suspect that they are doing this as I am no longer a Student and secondly I have now paid back a loan I had. Therefore no longer making them money
Any help with this would be very much appreciated
Thanks
Taz

Why bother? Open an account with a.n.other bank who will value your custom."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Do you to pay in a minimum of 500 pounds into your account every month and keep your account in good order.0 -
No but there was never any requirement for me to do that its a standard bank account with no restrictions to pay in a set amount a month. Not been overdrawn in over 12 months account in good order ! Surely a reminder would have been cortious saying if you dont use the account and place £500 in a month then you may lose it0

They changed it around a year agoShould you fail to make the £500 monthly payment required to maintain your account, we will either change it to a Current Account or give you notice that we will be closing your account. If you are under the age of 24, the qualification criteria will not apply.0 -

I don't think HSBC have ever enforced the £500 rule - and they are more likely to 'downgrade' the account, rather than close it if they did.
It sounds as if the OP may have got caught in the review of accounts that is mentioned here - but its certainly worth complaining to find out why they are trying to have your account closed..

TBH theres more to this anyway. The OP says they have been "bar stewards" for past 3 years so I suspect theres more to it, and HSBC have just got fed up and closed the account.0 -
Thanks Sunil for that link I thought I was just being victimised dont think it will hurt complaining all the way up to though doubt it would change things. Lokolo there is far far much more to this than what I have posted I dont think they ever like me clawing back bank charges from them on numerous occasions I suppose this has been on the cards since then. Then removing my Solo card for a Simple bank card the list of things goes on a mile TBH I am almost glad in some ways0

Just be careful where you move as HSBC charges are generally a lot fairer than other banks.0

I'm off to my branch tomorrow and see what they say only thing I can think of is the £500 rule I only paid in £250 in last month but I think that they would be fairly tight if this is the excuse that they use0
