I really don't see the problem here. I use other ebayers photos all the time and have never had any grief for it. I mostly sell console games, mobile phones etc, of which there are usually half a dozen photos of the same product around, and as I am selling EXACTLY the same item, why re-invent the wheel.
Of course, if someone is selling something specific, like an antique bit of furniture or something then fair enough, but otherwise I wouldn't be too bothered.Forget the chicken and the egg, what do you use to plant seedless grapes?0 -
Ask them to remove it and if they don't you can report them as it is against the rules to use other ebayers pictures.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Mostly because you're stealing someone else's work in creating and perfecting the picture and, if you're leeching the image from their server, you're stealing the traffic allowance (or bandwidth, if you prefer) that they have paid for.
I host my own pictures and, if this happens, I redirect the request to something juicy enough to get the listing pulled. What goes around - comes around0 -

I think I get you. But 9 times out of 10 I simply copy the pic onto my PC (rather than use a url) and then re-use it. If someone used one of my pics I would see it as a compliment!! I know that you can technically call it stealing, but surely there is a difference between copying a pic of a mobile phone and copying a pic of a 150 year old piano!!??Forget the chicken and the egg, what do you use to plant seedless grapes?0 -

Its just pure lazyness  , did you use to copy someone elses homework at school and then say "why bother doing it myself when someone else has put all their hard time and effort into it and i can just come along and take it"
Besides rule breaking is rule breaking whether its a minor rule or not

.......... surely you mean "laziness "? Perhaps you were just too lazy to check the correct spelling.................... ;-)
just light humour before anyone gets all hot under the collar!

You seem to misunderstand me......
No I didn't copy other people's homework!! But then, when the school sent out a letter they didn't handwrite them all did they?? Why not? because they were all copies of exactly the same thing, so they used the photocopier!
If I am selling a brand new mobile phone and there is already a picture of that same brand new mobile phone on ebay, please tell me how it is being 'lazy' in copying it?? Because if you think I am being lazy then you had better rush on down to your local Argos and demand that they have a picture of every single individual item they sell in their catalogue!!Forget the chicken and the egg, what do you use to plant seedless grapes?0 -

Stupid analogy considering the school have to write the letter in the first place therefore theyve earned the right to photocopy their own work. You however are photocopying other peoples work.
The point is its agasint the rules to use other peoples pictures of their specific items so what gives you the right to do it?0 -

I believe you are the one misunderstanding how ebay works.
Sellers are individuals so photograph the item they have in their possession to sell, if someone uses that photograph it is quite often an indication that they don't actually have that item and are attempting a scam. It would be a dreadful shame for a genuine seller to be thought of as a scammer just because they use someone elses photos, so dont risk it.
Also, ebay have a direct reporting mechanism for sellers to report inappropriate use of their photograph or auction description, so they obviously take this seriously as well.
If you are sure that people are happy to allow you to use their photos, why not email them via ask seller a question and politely ask them if you can use their image?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. To be honest, I didn't know it was against the rules. And I did make a distinction between a 'common' item (like a phone) and something specific. I didn't realise so many people were so touchy about their 'work' after all, it's just a pic of a phone, not a flippin Van Gough!!! Guess I'll have to be careful in the future.
(Btw, it wasn't a stupid analogy, I was simply making the point that copying something is sometimes more efficient that reproducing the same thing!)
