God i hate the 8 or 9 posts of unrelevant !!!! on MSE from old fatties on their soapbox ranting about how the world should be, before the one post from a person with information that is relevant to the actual question is posted
:rotfl:Coming from someone who doesn't know that closed shops can become open shops.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I would rather live above an active shop than an empty, the only caveat to this is it would depend on what type of shop it is. As others have said any Landlord with a commercial premises will be looking to let it out, for you to not expect this is unusual.
To the OP you posted on an open board and got responses, if you don't like them either don't post or just don't pay them any mind.0 -

 Is this allowed? I cant help but feel ive been duped into taking the flat as surely you just cant decide to open a shop just like that.
Yer, it's a difficult one.
They should have had a long hard think as to whether leaving it empty would actually be more profitable.
Instead of opening a shop in a commericial shop space, which is a shocker in it'self....you'd think they would have had consultations to deicde on whether leaving it empty is a better idea commercially.
But to decide that using it, instead of leaving it empty, just like that, is downright shocking.God i hate the 8 or 9 posts of unrelevant !!!! on MSE from old fatties on their soapbox ranting about how the world should be, before the one post from a person with information that is relevant to the actual question is posted

Is there a location that the mods can move this thread to, like Comedy Classics?0

I think I'd be grateful if a (suitable, of course) shop opened in otherwise vacant premises below me. Empty premises can become a magnet for undesirable behaviour, and if the shop is well heated my flat would be a lot warmer.
If it's a DVD rental shop you might get some free loans.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
