You could try checking ebay's completed listings to see how much similar things have gone for.
My plan (if I ever get round to it!) was to list everything on Gumtree first seeing as it's free, I can set the price I want and I won't have to faff with postage.
If it doesn't sell on there then I will attempt to sell it on ebay on free listing days.Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Yeah I think that is my plan for most things too. Selling the TV Stand was easy and there was no worry over what price it sold for...
Trying to think what other bits I have that can be sold on there...might actually do a carboot at some point!VSP - £14.76 | Saving for a Deposit0 -
I did a couple of car boots a few years ago and got £200 or so each time so not a bad planDebt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0

Yeah it's been ages since I last did one, was actually thinking of doing one with my mum as she has loads of stuff to clear out too, although last time we were putting all proceeds to holiday spending money, this time we'd need to split it!VSP - £14.76 | Saving for a Deposit0

:mad::mad:Southern electric! :mad::mad:
Just spent an hour on online chat with them as I couldn't get our meter readings to go through.
They now say we owe over £1200 - this is on top of our £50 a month payments we have been making!
However, they also say that they think the meter may be broken as it doesn't seem to have added enough(!) from readings last Wednesday to readings taken today.
They also say that all our bills have always been estimated since we moved in in September and denied that they took a meter reading in January despite there being a sticker on our meter left by the guy who took the readings. And yes I did have to confirm to them that it is indeed a Southern Electric sticker!
I have told them that I am not happy to pay anymore than our usual £50 bill until someone has come to check the meter in person and that I will refute the entire bill if the meter is shown to be faulty. They have agreed to this for the interim and I have to put in new meter readings next Monday.
I just can't believe they're attitude - they are quite concerned if the meter is broken but not in their favour although at that kind of debit I don't see how it can be! But not at all concerned that it might be broken and not in our favour! Sorry just very :mad: and needed to vent!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
How stressful! I hate dealing with the electricity company. Meter readers make my blood boil - I've had two goodwill payments from Accuread in the past because of the horrible jobs they did. Now I just don't let them in.
I'm sure it's faulty, beccie - I hope you get it sorted with minimum hassle and ££!Total Debt Sept 2010 - £24,132.38 / Current - £0.00/ 100% paid

I'm a lot less annoyed about it today - need to save it ready to do battle with them again on Monday!

HI Beccie, sorry I've been MIA for a while, glad to see you've been getting on so well with the payments, keep up the good work
When we were in an all electric flat last year our payments were about £75 a month, and it was so well insulated that we only used the storage heaters from november-february, on the lowest setting. This was a 1 bed flat, and we only used the heater in the front room, the others were never even switched on, so heating water is pretty expensive. Still, your bill sounds ridiculous, so I'd agree that there's probably something up with your meter, or there's a problem somewhere in your flat that's burning through electricity - are you on economy 7? if so, is your water heater only on the off-peak setting? we left ours on on-peak for ages once by mistake. how much did you have the heating on over the winter, again did you just use the off peak settings if it's economy 7? do you use the oven a lot?Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Hiya hun
That is absolutely shocking and I can't believe the person you spoke to didn't think so themselves. Are they not human, do they not have bills and think that it is astronomical!!! I had the same problem with Brit1sh Ga$ in out old house - they wouldn't let me move company either as owed them £600 cos of their mistake.
Anyway - on the debt busting front - you are doing great! Well done on the payments.Debt - CCV £3792
