:think:The one below is the nieghbours property, this bricked carport was only a hollow shell but now converted this into a room. There are 6 bricks with large holes, surporting the whole floor, also this floor is not connected in anyway onto my gable wall, therefore not only surported by 6 bricks but also only surported 3 ways.

I'm no expert but I'd be concerned about that too - that platform of bricks was presumably there originally, but only to support the carport roof. A six-foot plus high wall (and, presumably another on the inside) will weigh considerably more than that, then when you add the weight of the roof?

You say it's not connected to your gable at all - if it isn't how on earth do they get the roof flashing to seal? That looks very much fixed to (and into) your wall to me.

    OP, would you consider standing up to your neighbour rather than meekly looking away whenever he passes by? Possibilities might include;

Finding a local women's support group, such as that formed by wives who've been abused by husbands/partners
    Looking for some assertiveness training
    ..and variations thereof.

If, when he next smirks at you, you were to stare him in the eye and tell him to his face that he's an obnoxious bully, he might just be too shocked to respond in kind..... or maybe don't wait for him to pass by. Knock on his door at 6am tomorrow morning and give him a peace of your mind......

Failing that, I'd get your MP involved and, if you can bear the publicity, see if the local press will run your story, and shame the neighbour into submission.....

Thank you for your replys.. we have found something new.. the 2 lintels on wither side are inbedded into my property but when i phoned the homebuilders they stated they were only there to surport the hollow carport and not for a room.. also i have large cracks going across my bedoom ceiling.. could these cracks be caused by the movement of next doors extension as the extension is reight next door to my bedroom, would it be placing stress onto my building. i did contact the council and they were not intrested at all. :(

Have you had a structural engineer out?
have you contacted building control in writing and CC'd it to your local MP.

You should make an appointment to see your MP. If you ring today they may be available this weekend.

    Your building control sound awful.

TBH go and see the MP and see what they say. Take the photos with you.

I would speak to a few SE to get quotes - you never know you might get a nice one who'll offer to come out and have an initial look for free which might help you.

I agree all the above advice is very sound in particular to continue to contact council and MP. Another thing that might work is to ring the local paper and explain the story. In my area they "love" something to write about the council not doing what they should do and also when there is a human angle which I think we could say there is here. Good luck with it all you please speak to your family about it they may even be able to help you never know.

    Do you own your home?
Do you have buildings and contents insurance? Does it include legal cover?
If this extension is damaging your property, as it seems to be with the cracks occuring in your bedroom, you need specialist legal help.
This has obviously been going on for some time & you aren't getting anywhere. If you do have legal cover, please call them today, & get a professional involved to help you.

To be frank, you really need a report from a surveyor or structural engineer if you want your concerns taken seriously.. I don't think that you are going to get very far without that. For example, you can show your MP pictures of the rusty screws, but he will have no better idea than the rest of us whether that is a serious defect or just, well, a bit of rust.

Also, if you are selling anyway, it may be better to keep quiet about all this and leave it up to your buyer's surveyor to decide if it is an issue. Once you know for sure about a structural defect you may have to disclose it in the conveyancing forms - you have to say if there are any disputes with neighbours.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Got to agree with GDB2222 with this one, it's totally pointless raising an issue with your MP or the local press because nobody actually knows if there is an issue. You will not be taken seriously and then if it later transpires there is an issue it will be far harder for them to take you seriously.

There is only one course of action to take now - Get a Surveyor or Structural Engineer to inspect the property properly. Have you even had quotes for them carrying out an inspection? I really don't think it will cost as much as you think. Go to your local Estate Agent today, get 3 recommendations and phone them up and talk to them about it. You never know, you might catch one who's doing in inspection round the corner next week and is able to pop in and see you for free.

It really does sound like you're going round in circles and you keep coming back to the internet to ask unqualified strangers if your house is going to fall down, we cannot tell you, and neither can your MP, neither can the local press and neither can your local EA - until you find out for sure there is an issue you cannot progress matters any further.

Good luck with it all and I hope it all gets sorted.
