:think:The one below is the nieghbours property, this bricked carport was only a hollow shell but now converted this into a room. There are 6 bricks with large holes, surporting the whole floor, also this floor is not connected in anyway onto my gable wall, therefore not only surported by 6 bricks but also only surported 3 ways.

The picture below is nails that are rusting under this conversion.

If these 6 bricks snap then the large metal lintal thats only resting on the bricks, also their front door is under this conversion.. putting danger to the public .. ie postman/postwomen. The neighbours do not have building regulations or a completion certificate, however i did ask for an inspection but as the work has been done over 2 years they cant do anything, but im not sure if there is a time limit for an unsafe structure/building.
Because of this conversion i am experiancing alots of noise from the neighboures property as they have a three storey house and now their lounge is on the same level as my main bedroom and the babies room.
would the neighbours conversion be safe or could it collasp at some point.. Please can anyone help
The one below is part of my property this was done by the home builders
As there are pillars surporting the room above.

By the looks of it, that could easily collapse. The lintel should be sitting into the wall, not on a few bricks. Wet conditions could cause the bricks to become dangerously brittle. It's in the neighbours own interests as well to support this structure - or they might not have a sitting room to come home to and indeed a large insurance claim against them from you if structural damage occurs...I like living in Spain...0

Thank you for your reply. Im not 100% what they use this room for, they used to have a 4 bedroom house, now its a 5 bedroom house. I recently had twins 3 months premature, and unwent special care for 3 months as they were born under 1.8lb and 1.9lb, throughout my pregncy i was having only 3-5 hours sleep aday, because of the noise coming from the neighbours, i did knock on somedays but no one would open the door even though i could see them walking pass inside there front door, there was banging doors loud music, starts from 5.45 am, until they go to work but then i cant get back to sleep. i finished work at 10pm and trying to sleep as soon as i get in but usually fall asleep around 1am throughout my pregnancy.
Im not sure where to go as i am extremely concerned as there front door is under this conversion and the postman could also be in danger and when my little uns grow up, i probabily will not even let them play in my own front garden as there is a foot of land which is at the side of my house, also i no longer place my waste bins there, as not i have to drive my car out to take my bins out, extremely inconvience.0 -
In the thread you started about this issue before you were advised to contact your Local Authority's Building Control Dept. I believe.
Why haven't you done this?
People can give their opinions about whether they think this construction is unsafe or not but no-one can help you get this investigated until you contact your Local Authority. Please do this as a matter of urgency! Multiple threads about the same issue will not get this problems solved for you: that is solely in your hands.0 -
So the neighbour has attached the extension to the wall of your property??? Did you object to this at the time?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I thought the same thing. Did they get planning permission? Why have you not been in contact with the council?Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -

Ive phone local authority but they were not that helpful, thereofre i have written a letter of urgancy and have to go int town with the twins to drop it off by hand. Planning never helped my at the beginning or the building department but will have to make a formal visit with the pictures. Thanx0 -

I had contacted the council and went down at least 5 times and all 5 times they stated they did not need planning. Ive been trying to fight this case for a long time and i am extremely phycally and mentally exhauted0 -

Yes i did object at the time but no one was on my side not even planning or the house builders and because of the time limit my barrister said that i may lose the case and pay next door neighbours fees which come to a grand total of £30 thousand. Also the neighbour is very aggressive and i feel scared.0 -

So there may be more to this than meets the eye. If the structure is faulty, surely your neighbour would have the good sense to want to put it right?
Or (and I have no desire to change subject) is it also possible that you feel stressed with your newborn babies and the neighbours attitude isn't helping.
For your own sake, don't confuse the two issues - take BitterandTwisted's advice - contact your Local Authority Building Dept.
And perhaps speak calmly to your neighbour...I like living in Spain...0 -

Yes there is more.. i will have the courage and go today to the Local Authority, becasue i objected he started harrassing me, he used to wait till i came home and catapole stones at me and my car and then running back in, calling me all sorts, parked a car outside my house with a blowup doll and there was people knocking on my door telling me to move it as not appropriate for children which i had to explain it was next door neighbours, the worse experiance was on bonfire night which i cant forget the date, he throw water over me and threw stones which ghe picked up from my garden, jumped over the back fence and knocking on my windows, i called the police so many times but as it was bonfire night they came after 6 hours when he went to sleep. I then went to my mothers when the police arrived. i had most of it recorded on my mobile phone, which he did get arrested twice, but i live with this and i am still scared and cant afford to move elsewhere.0
