Soda Crystals

OK, I’ve finally got the hump with our slow draining bath water so I’ve taken the plunge [Ooow, bad pun] and used some Soda Crystals thus:
- Poured a kettle full of near boiling water down the plughole
- Poured a mug full of dry Soda Crystals down the plughole
- Poured a little more near boiling water down the plughole.
Do I need to increase the quantity of dry Soda Crystals?
Thanks in advance,

Hi!
I'd flush it through now with some more boiling water, and if it's still not fast enough at draining, I would pour more crystals straight down the plughole, then a kettle of boiling water again.
I usually find it takes around a 1/4 of a bag at least for the first application, then it's just a case of a little once week to keep it free flowing.

Soda Crystals should NOT be used on aluminium
A guide to strengths of Soda Crystals
Mild - 1 tablespoon to one pint of water
Regular - Half a cup to one pint of water
Strong - One cup to one pint of water
I was surprised to read that you can use it in cooking.
For tender vegetables and pulses that retain their colour, simply add Soda Crystals to soaking and cooking water.

I love Soda crystals. :j
I also use them to clean windows....like magic :T
I dilute a 5kg washing powder box with a bag of these..........makes it go further and stops the machine clogging up. :A

I left the solution in the bath waste pipe for 3 hours before flushing and plunging. Water still slow to drain but slightly faster than it was.
I’ve repeated the process with another near boiling water flush, one mug of dry Soda Crystals poured down the plughole followed by some more near boiling water.
1 x mug = .25 of a packet of crystals.
I intend to leave this solution in the waste pipe overnight, is this a good idea or should the solution be flushed away sooner?Do It To Them Before They Do It To You

The problem with the bath waste is that it's probably binged up with hair:eek: .
i would try unraveling a metal coat hanger, and seeing if you can fish out any gunk. Not pleasant I agree`, but will help to cleat the pipes.
Soda Crystals are good for de-greasing, but i'm pretty sure they won't disolve hair and such.
Sorry I can't help any more, but leaving it in the waste overnight certainly won't do any harm.

Sorry if this is obvious to everybody else
I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't get on with vinegar. I've had a spray bottle with 50:50 dilution vinegar:water to clean the kitchen and bathroom. But I just don't find it cuts through grease very well, and takes loads of elbow grease to get rid of soap scum. I know I probably doing something badly wrong, but I persevered and couldn't get it to work satisfactorily. I do a lot of office cleaning and don't feel I could use vinegar there, but other cleaners are getting expensive.
So I though I'd try Soda Crystals for 80p a bag. Next to the bag was a spray bottle of 'Liquid Soda Crystals' which got me thinking. I made up a 'regular' dilution of the crystals in a spray bottle and it works brilliantly! Cleaned my cooker hood fantastically!BUT. I noticed if I don't rinse it off properly it leaves a white crystalised residue.
So my question is, should I use a weaker soda solution? The packet says 'regular' is 1/2 cup soda to 1pt water. Is this too strong?

Not sure about soda crystals (apart from adding them to my washing powder to make it go further) but i find adding bicarb to vinegar really helps cut through greasy cookers, soapy bathrooms and is pretty good at unblocking plug holes as well!!!! Just make sure you rinse with water once youve cleaned it off, so you dont get the white residue!!!0
