Oh no, have I scared you all off? ;)

Should have also said, the particular make up she had in her pocket (and all over her face!!!) wasn't in the bathroom so it wasn't right there for her to take, she's either taken it from my bedroom or out of the bin - I haven't worn that colour in months so can't remember whether I'd thrown it out or not :o

Also, it's my nephew's birthday party this weekend, I'm wondering whether she should be allowed to go - I'm thinking no, she should be punished, but I don't wanna let my brother and nephew down either. Help?!

    She's 7 :)

  • Hi Cutterby, I've had a few issues like this. DD helped herself to my make-up and then managed to spill my nail varnish over it all and the bathroom carpet, she then lied about it. How old is your daughter? Mine was nearly 5 and it was soon after I gave birth. I was really angry, but she hasn't done anything like that for months now, so we think it was done for attention.

Refresh me Cutterby, how old is she?

I had a similar situation with Aimee the other day.. She has 2 jewellery boxes, one is plastic and full of cheap bangles and magazine freebies... The other is in my room and has things like the crucifix my Nan bought her when she was baptised, and a few bracelets my Mum bought back from America etc... The other day she came downstairs wearing one of her bracelets, which is fine... I've asked her not to mess in it, but we're in the house and not going anywhere... Then a couple of days later the baby suddenly appears with one of the bracelets on, while Aimee's at school (and the night before I'd found the locket she got for being a bridesmaid on my bed)... Once she was at home I asked her why the precious things were just lying around when they're supposed to be away... She started off by saying she didn't notice she'd dropped the locket and she'd forgotten to put the bracelet away, OK... Fine... So if I go and look in your jewellery box, everything else will be in there? Yes... So if I look, the dolphin necklace with your name on is in there <shifty look> I've lost it... In my bedroom... A couple of minutes of argument that you can't lose things in your bedroom and you best get up there and look for it... She's gone for about 10mins, then comes downstairs and says "sorry, I lied... They're in my drawer at school"

I had a bit of a freak at that because A) they're precious things, and B) she KNOWS she's not supposed to take anything to school... But, I tried to control myself because she'd told the truth... I think hormonally wise, I was having a good day... If she'd got me when I was tired, hungry or stressed then she'd have got both barrells...

I can understand why you're upset, she's taken your things, spent 30mins lying about it when it was so obviously on her face... I'd have been upset too... But it is also something I think they're all prone to do... I would give her another talking to later, when you're a bit calmer... Explain what it is about the situation that upset you so much, and suggest that if she ever wants to wear your make up, it needs to be when you are there, she needs to ask first, and never on a school day...

Hi KT, thanks for replying, she's 7. I've calmed down a lot now, am feeling more disappointed and let down - feeling like we're maybe not as close as I thought we were, maybe we don't have the good relationship that I thought we did. *sigh*. After I spoke to her teacher, I went into the cloakroom to say bye to her - was mad at her but I couldn't have just left without saying bye - and she hugged me and started crying again so I took her into the bathroom to wash her face and explained that while I always love her, right then I didn't like her very much because of what she'd done and we'd talk about it tonight. Did I do the right thing or was that a bit much? I don't want her thinking I hate her or worrying about coming home, but she has to realise the seriousness of what she's done and how much she's upset me. Now I've calmed down I'm worrying :o

I wouldn't stop her going to the party, but I would think of some sort of punishment... Does she get pocket money? Could you stop it for a week to pay for the makeup?

And telling her you still love her is the right thing to do... I have said exactly the same things to Aimee... I love you very much but sometimes I don't like the way you behave...

    Hi Cutterby.

I can understand why you'd be fuming, at 7 she's old enough to understand right and wrong. I'm not a fan of make up on kids either, so I can see why you wouldn't want her wearing it. I think Krystal's comment make sense - maybe just for special occasions only.

I would let her go to the party, but maybe tell her if she lies again to you, that she won't get nice treats like parties.

will do siggy in a minute promise - I have been meaning to.

cutterby she sounds exactly like my DD who is nearly 6 so I do think it is probably perfectly normal. I'd not stop her from the party either because its a family party especially but maybe think of something else.

    Good morning everyone

Here I am with 2 tabs open(thanks for the tip Gill), I have just been and taken G to the creche at work for a look around as he will be going there 3 days a week when i go back to work in Jan. He was such a good boy i was soooo pleased with him, even when other babies were crying he kept smiling, he when to all the staff no problem and didnt murmur when i left the room for a bit!
it must have tired him out as hes fast asleep now!
Elle, thanks for the info about alfie bear, i was going to get him from smythes after your first post as we are going there anyway this week because i want a giggling elmo chair for him(he is probably too young just yet but it sounds so cute!) but then after you post about the discount(and the factDebenhams had a blue one ans smyths didnt) i thought that it was a bit cheaper in debenhams - but - you guessed it, i thought "i will just have a look at what else is on sale" and spent a fortune! however none of it on me so i dont fell at all bad! Hope you are feeling better today?
SS it must be very frustrating to still be cooped up in one room i can understand your murderous thoughts, i have those too sometimes and we have a whole house to annoy each other in!
What the film CAFC? i do love a good christmas film, im thinking of turning the movie channels on for the month? is it worth it does anyone know whats on?

    xx
