It's where some of the red blood cells are funny shaped (like a sickle) and I think it means they can't carry oxygen as well. It's more common in malarial regions because being a carrier provides protection against malaria.jillie1974 wrote: »sorry to hear that DD has sickel cell. dont know much if anything about it i' afraid.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Hi Mrs I
Sorry to hear your little one has sickle cell. Hope that you are reassured at the hospital that it can be managed.
I don't really set expectations for our days. As long as everyone is fed, warm and reasonably happy, then I'm pleased. It's nice to be able to cook from scratch most of the times, but we have days when I'm tired or busy so they get chicken kiev and chips or something bunged in the oven. I don't beat myself up about it though as these things happen. Ditto housework and other stuff.
Had a brilliant morning playing out in the snow. More pics on FB.Here I go again on my own....0 -
Beccles - you're so lucky you got snow, all we got over here was a light dusting on top of some cars

SusanC i - never saw the grabbit about £1.99 die cast trains however i did get DS some when they were in the argos sale - managed to get 8 trains for £20 so i was chuffed about that. Will also check my local pondstrecher this weekend. He has most of his xmas pressies already though.
Not a lot of people know much about SCD so i will also explain it quickly. Her red blood cells change shape and go very rigid which means that they can get stuck in the capillaries and cause her pain. Thankfully she hasn't had a crisis yet and is developmentally 'normal' apart from the fact that she doesn't seem to fight off colds and infections very well (related to the SCD). If i'm perfectly honest though i don't have much experience of SCD as she is the first person myself and my partner know of who has the full-blown condition (we have the gene for it). She is also being medicated to help to control the condition though there is no cure.
Anyway on a different mater DD is being a bit of a pain at the moment and is currently chewing anything within her reach including my shoulders. Got her baptism next weekend and im hoping she doesn't attempt to chew the priest or her baptismal candle :rotfl::rotfl:
GTG now as DD is whinging for another bottle and i've got to check on my cake (felt like baking today) - hope to chat again soon.Married since 28/04/2007

Hi Mts I

Weezl I will do a long boring post of what we've done today later - I'm writing it on a bit of paper for you as we go along
I think it can be easy to get the idea that everyone else has good days all the time because people generally don't talk about a satisfactory or not quite satisfactory day but they do talk about the good days when they feel like they've got loads done which can inadvertently give the impression that they've got it together all the time when in fact everyone has a variety of good, satisfactory and bad days.
That is a good point. If I posted my list of all the things I did yesterday when I was having a spring clean it would make me look like superwoman. But on a normal day I wouldn't get anywhere near that done... hence why every so often I need to have a blitz

Hiya Mrs I! I remember you from the pregnancy thread. Glad to hear DD is doing well.
Bit of a manic day...DH is off so taking care of Finn. But said Grumpypants was being very Not Happy, so he asked if I could take my lunch break earlier...think we have teethies bothering at the moment, as he's eaten very little in the past 24 hrs and not latching on properly either. I hate taking early lunches as it makes the rest of the afternoon dragggggggg. On top of that, there is sweet FA to fix for dinner and I'm TRYING to eat diet-y which makes contemplating takeaway very difficult.
So, this would definitely be one of Susan's not-satisfactory days.
But we have heating again (turns out one just needed an industrial-sized wrench to tighten down all the fittings), so that's a plus. top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
would like to win a holiday, please!!

Hi Mrs I:)
Another thing I'm feeling guilty about is.... my cats!!:rotfl:Before Daisypoos arrived they were my babies:o and I just don't have time to even give them a brush anymore:(

How stupid is that??:rotfl:"Hello. I need to cancel my appoinment cos I'm going m&s" But I really don't have any other time to go:oBLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
