    Hi all

A quick update from me - Baby Verity Grace was born on 13 October, 6 days late, 7lb 7oz.

We're all doing quite well at the moment, but have a quick question for recent new mums or those with long memories:

How long before the cord stump falls off? I'm sure H's was off within about 5 days, Miss Stinky Stump still has hers, and it stinks, and there are spots of blood falling off (but nothing major). Obviously I'm not looking for medical advice, just anecdotes!

    Thanks muchly

Hehe I got to see the lovely baby V this morning :D She is sooooooo cute, big congrats to you again xx

Stump wise we had to wait about 10 ish days too, but Ts didnt heal very well so Doc had to paint it with one of those funny matchstick looking thigys (get me all technical)

What are folks with young toddlers doing about keeping Christmas trees away from little hands, or does the novelty just wear off after a couple of days?
When Alice was 20 months, we had the tree and some presents on top of the TV unit until Christmas Day. I thought we only had the tree on the floor on Christmas Day and then put it outside but looking at the photos apparently we still had it in the New Year so presumably presents/visitors were more interesting than our pathetic excuse for a tree.

When she was 8 months the tree was too dead to use so we used a Christmas bouquet we'd been given which containined a Christmas tree branch as our "tree". I think she went for it the odd time but I just used to tell her no and move her away if she went for things I didn't want her to meddle with.

  • Thanks Mel, but I am fine. I am very lucky to have lovely family and friends to support me and I think affair was an overstatement this morning. I feel more like it's mutual flirting (although the texts made me ). She's very newly married so I wonder if it's about testing boundaries and boosting confidence post-baby (for both of them). I am still  and :o but less teary than this morning.

Anyhow, that's enough about my soap opera marriage (although if it was a soap they'd be banging in the back of a police car, which I trust they are not).

We're putting ours on a table... And then probably barricading it in... Glad things are looking a bit better this afternoon :)

GISI mutual flirting would make me  and :o as well, but I am glad you feel that it has not progressed into anything physical. Husband and I are both very flirtatious people, and while we are both frequently flirty with friends we know where the boundaries are and would never cross the line into anything that would hurt the other person. I am amazed and in awe of how gracious you are being.

Is it gingerbread latte season? My favourite time of the year!

  • Henry is such a monkey that I fear putting the tree on a table would just tempt him :rotfl:. I think we will go with no breakable decorations and not putting it up too early.

Damn - mega catch up and my quotes have disappeared!

There was ((hugs)) this morning for GISI. I really hope you're very very wrong and its some silly flirting situation and i'm pleased you're getting the opportunity to take some time to chat next week.

I personally wouldn't be able to hold it in for more than a couple of hours!, :o but that's not always a good thing.

How to keep mobile babies away from the tree? You don't. You start with a really pretty looking tree and by Christmas, you've moved all of the decorations to the top so the bottom is bald.

EM :j:eek::j How exciting! I'm so excited about you peeing in the morning.

CAFC You are an absolutely fabby Mummy and an absolutely wonderful Chief Squirrel.

Searchie Where are Philip and Zoe? (Did I miss a post?)

DK Congratulations. I love her name, it's beautiful.

Mel You're funny! I'm pleased you're letting your hair down and blasting your ears out! :D

My Mum is also !!!!!! this evening. She's sent me a message on facebook to tell me I look fat on a certain photo, which is about three years old btw! Then she's just text me to tell me about a new product for under eye dark cicles! I told her that turning 59 (yesterday) doesn't give her the right to insult me! She text back she's had two glasses of wine and is slaughtered. :rotfl:

  • DK - congratuations. I think everyone else has answered the cord stump question, so my "i can't remember" isn't very useful to you in comparison.

GISI - well done, I hope that is enough to shock him into getting his priorities straight :)

Christmas - I'm definitely in he school of bung it all on. I don't mind fancy matching decorations on other peoples trees, but I much prefer a big mess of everything. I'm not realy organised enough to make it all match though - I buy a few bits each year, and just buy the things I like best, then come home and find it clashes with what I already have, then use it all anyway. No idea if we will try a tree this year. We will have lights on the balcony again (because we is classy, innit) and decorations out of arms reach, but not sure wher we would put a tree.
