  • Tara - I didn't answer your question earlier in the week (about your moving and the state of the construction industry).

I am not sure what sector your hubby works in, nor what job he is in, but if his work is predominantly public sector funded then I would suggest stretching yourselves further would be a potentially bad move at this point. Downsizing/reducing your mortgage on the other hand would be a positive move and will reduce the pressure in the coming years (for example I can see that lots of companies could impose pay freezes).

If he is a QS/Commercial member of staff then they tend to be more called for when times get tough. Operational management are more dispensable. Consultants even more so :(

As a family funded predominantly by public sector highways funding where the budgets have been slashed by 42% next financial year, moving to 45% the year after this doesn't bode particularly well for us.

I just hope that hubby can finalise his move into employment (his company is being taken over) given today's announcements. As a self employed consultant in a changing world I have an opportunity to prove myself and do something special or drown along with the rest of them...

...how much is Mat Allowance for self employed peeps? It may be an opportune time to be having a baby ;) :rotfl::rotfl:

At the hospital I used to work at there was a geriatric-care unit where reports from patients' families were taken seriously. I don't know if that's universal though.

Th dry patches on T's skin seem to have gone redder since using double base. Has anyone else noticed this? Ofcourse it coincide with the weaning as well. He's been having baby porridge that you just add water to for breakfast, other than that it's all been fresh fruit and veg.

Thanks MFD, hope it does work out for you. He's officially a QS but now also Contract Manager and Project Manager. They do a lot of schools and churchs, and council work. But last week they did get a 100% increase in their maintainance contract with the council so are building a quickie extension in their offices to take on new staff. They do work a lot in the area privately too and don't even advertise, it's all by reputation and word of mouth. We think the company is safe but he could see a 4 day week perhaps for a year if the bigger jobs wind down. Trying to think sensibly as a 4 day week is better than no job. X

Maternity Allowance pays a standard weekly rate of £124.88 or 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings (before tax), whichever is the smaller.
MA is paid for a maximum period of 39 weeks.

I'm at the same surgery so I guess I could mention that I am worried about her? Would they malke a note in a patients file or would confedentuality mean they couldn't do anything?

Can you just call up and say 'I am worried about a patient bla bla bla' to a GP?
OH has letters in his medical records which they wrote to his GP. I don't know whether the GP did anything specifically as a result of them writing though as it's not clear from the records and OH won't remember.

Same as SMP except you don't get the first six weeks at whatever percent it is of your normal pay first.
