Ryanair - Prepaid Mastercard Problems

Ryanair and prepaid mastercard Following the advice on this site and others I recently acquired a FairFX prepaid Mastercard in order to avoid the Ryanair administration charges. I obtained the card and duly loaded it with £160. So far so good. However, I have tried on about a dozen occasions over the course of a week to use it to book a £118 flight on the Ryanair website. On each occasion the result is payment declined. I have contacted FairFX card services and they tell me that I am entering an incorrect expiry date. I have used the card to make other online purchases and have not had a problem apart from with Ryanair. I called Ryanair and they were not interested and said it was nothing to do with them. In the end I used a different card and paid the admin fee plus an extra £40 because the cost of the seats had by that time risen to £150. I cant prove it of course but it seems to me that Ryanair are trying to make it impossible to pay with a prepaid Mastercard, i.e. the very type of card that does not attract the £5 per person each way administration fee.

I booked last night with Neteller prepaid mastercard first attempt and no problems, I doubt it is Ryanair trying to be difficult0

Did you double check the expiry date on your card with the records held by FairFx, in case there is some inconsistency between the two?
If that doesn't solve the problem, I'd suggest making a small on-line purchase somewhere else (maybe a CD with free delivery as a christmas present ?) and see if that transaction goes through. At least it would tell you if the problem lies with the card, or the website.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I used my Caxton Pre-Paid Mastercard 2 days ago on Ryanair without any problems, so I doubt that it is Ryanairs fault.0

I have a FairFX card too and Ryanair have rejected it on two or three occasions. I always give up and try later, when the card usually then works. It might not be Ryanair's fault, but it is strange that your no-fees card would not work but the one you paid a £10 "admin fee" to use worked fine.0

I think all you can do is try later (or pay Ryanair's rip off fees!).0

Me too, I'm now having some problems after dozens of flights booked with Ryanair using this card.
Last Friday I did not realise I did not enough fundings on my card and insisted 3 or 4 times by typing again the card details... When I realised I was missing £1 I topped-up the card, but now the card is rejected saying the card details are incorrect...
I called Ryanair - they do not care, they just say their website will not block a card.
I emailed FairFX - stupid answer! They tell me to check I have enough fundings and to take time when entering the details... I had to explain to that guy that before even thinking of emailing them I checked that a lot of times... Still waiting for the second answer, but for now the card is still rejected...
I've now asked for another prepaid Mastercard which is not FairFX...0
