Ryanair - Prepaid Mastercard Problems
Comments

when i first looked into a fx card a few weeks ago i was sure it was a £4.95 initial charge but after that all transactions were free. now looking to apply and its showing x amount for withdrawing and transactions and also an x amount for currency conversion or something like that? did i get it wrong the first time around or did it change? and wouldnt iy be costing much the same using my barclay debit card to make withdrawals?0

received FairFx card today and booked Ryanair flights no problem. They had gone up £10 since I ordered the card, but better than the £24 charge otherwise.0

after a few days it now works.
I must admit i kept waiting 24 hours but to no avail - I suggest you wait longer.
the card is now working fine - so problem with data inputted
I believe it was an (alledgedly) temporary stop by ryanair as I was able to use the card elsewhere no problem!0 -
Not had any problems whatsoever with the Escape prepaid Mastercard. Bookings having gone through time after time. I always fly with whoever is the cheapest and most times it is RyanAir.
I mentioned this on a couple of posts. My Escape prepaid Mastercard hasn't been working for over a week now! Used to work fine for the last year.
Called their telephone helpdesk 4 times and on each occasion they said that they'd pass this onto their technical support desk but nothing's fixed.
I've got more than enough funds and have used this card to make other online purchases.
Gonna try loading some funds on my Orange Cashcard and see if that works.
Booked a flight using my normal credit card (as I was desperate to book the flight before the prices shot up even more!) and of course that went through without a hitch albeit with the £12 admin charge!
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one having problems with my prepaid Mastercard booking with these crooks. Surely this is something for Trading Standards to look into now...0 -
I've had the same problem but I'd forgotten the 1.4% fee that FairFX charge on all transactions. That fee pushed me just over the available funds on the card. Unfortunately the minimum amount you can top up with is £50.
Under my account details on the FairFX website, it says "amount available". This is misleading because it doesn't include their fee which needs to be included for every purchase. I've told them about this but I doubt they'll make any changes.
Waiting for the top-up to go through. Hopefully my next attempt at booking will be successful.

Why should they make any changes? Nothing misleading about it at all. You admit that you 'forgot' that they take a 1.4% fee.
They show you the amount available in your account.
How on earth can they know whether you will choose to make withdrawals and/or purchases??
So how do you propose that they can guess what the charges will be on your account before you make them?
Take some responsibility and use your intelligence when it comes to financial transactions. You can't expect someone to hold your hand all through life.0 -
Has anyone had experience of booking with Ryanair using the relatively new Orange prepaid mastercard? It seems easy to get ( cost a fiver ) and to top up. Maybe the way forward.0

FairFX charge 1.4% on all transactions. Therefore they know exactly what the charge will be and could directly subtract 1.4% from the total available in my account as there is no getting around that fee. There may be some legal reason why they can't display it, as I could ask for a refund of the full amount. But it would still be helpful to have a reminder, my memory's not as good as it used to be, and every little helps
More importantly, my transaction failed after the top-up. FairFX responded as follows:After the top up FairFX did not decline any of your transactions, however, we are aware that Ryanair have a security measure in place, which means after some failed payments attempts they may temporarily block your account for 24 hours.0 -

Did you read my earlier reply?? They also charge extra for ATM withdrawals. So what would happen if you tried to make an ATM cash withdrawal of the total amount in your account?
Would you complain that they didn't include the withdrawal charges too?
If you are not smart enough to use the card responsibly, get a simpler card for your usage, instead of making baseless complaints.0 -
I have to agree with stilltheone on this - there's nothing wrong whatsoever with how FairFX displays the amount available on their website - it's not misleading, customers just need to factor in the transaction charge and ATM charge if applicable.0
